UPDATE (04/23/2025, 2:04 PM AKDT): I have been informed by a number of users leaving their votes on this removal that I forgot to include RED from Friday Night: Monster of Monsters in the list of removal candidates. They are a sadistic and demonic creature that has killed multiple people in the real world, including protagonist Zack's girlfriend, before possessing his copy of the NES game Godzilla: Monster of Monsters to screw around with him, engaging in a series of rap battles.
I would like to give my utmost gratitude to all of the users that pointed him out to me, and I want to clarify now that he will be included in the purge if the votes all line up in favor of cutting FNF villains from CM status. If there are any other FNF characters who currently have CM status that I forgot to list in this removal, let it be known that they will also be cut if the purge goes through. Thank you.
Howdy there, VFW! Friendly closet monster and tyrannical god-emperor Postuhenin here, with something that's unfortunately been due for a long, long time. Because of recent discussions held within the inner circles of the community, as well as a number of bad-faith arguments being made that have only affirmed our decision, we have decided that a certain well-known Newgrounds video game about rap battling opponents is sadly not compatible with the status of Complete Monster... at all.
Why is this, you may be asking? Please read on to find out, and to properly see every character that will be on the chopping block today.
What is the work?[]
Friday Night Funkin' is a 2020 indie video game released on Newgrounds, originally a simple entry for the Ludum Dare 47 game jam that unexpectedly took off into the stratosphere shortly afterward due to its strong collection of characters, music, and various gameplay styles. The game revolves around main protagonist BF having to engage internationally renowned singer Daddy Dearest in a rap battle to prove his worthiness of having the latter's daughter, GF, as his girlfriend.
Due to the game's open-source nature, it has been picked up and modified by countless different people, with numerous different engines being developed specifically for the job and making it all the more accessible to beginner game scripters wanting to make fun projects, the vast majority of which would become dedicated fan projects made for various popular works and fanworks alike. And that gets us to where we are now.
Who are the characters?[]
Going in alphabetical order:
Beelze is the main antagonist of Death Toll WITH LYRICS by popular YouTube musician Juno Songs. He's a malevolent spirit that resides within a copy of Pokémon Pearl. He puts up a friendly façade and doesn't let on to BF, the game's player, that as he presses a button to sign a contract in-game and progress forward, he's actually signing a contract through dimensions and dooming himself to eternity stuck inside the game, with in-game character Dawn being killed in order to make way for BF's arrival.
The Black Impostor, better known simply as Black, is the main antagonist of FNF mod VS Impostor. They're one of many impostors in the mod, but they're by far the biggest and baddest, having killed the father of crewmate Gray so they could adopt the young space explorer and twist them into a maddened, violent murderer. As it so happens, they're not even meant to be part of the in-universe Among Us video game, as they're a sentient virus that infected a specific copy of the game in order to wreak havoc within it and make innocent characters suffer.
Black is also the main antagonist of the video Defeat & Finale WITH LYRICS by popular YT musician RecD. They're an adaptation of the aforementioned character from the VS Impostor mod, but given far more horrific context to their actions, such as having forcefully possessed an innocent black crewmate in order to make their way into the game. Not to mention, during their fight with BF, they reveal that they've successfully killed him multiple times, a collection of his past skulls on display for him to look at in horror.
GB is the main antagonist of the video Golden Land WITH LYRICS by popular YT musician Fiepie, and featuring fellow musician LukeGoji. He traps BF and GF within his twisted realm, seemingly for eternity, and taunts them beforehand by singing his motivations to them, explaining how he could trade places with the two to break into reality and bring about despair and misery for all living beings within it. It's unknown how many people he killed before or after the song, but it's highly implied that his attempted kill count rises somewhere up into the billions.
Legion is the main antagonist of FNF mod The Trollge Files, formerly known as The Blueballs Incident. He had killed a talk show host by slicing his throat open prior to being infected by the Trollge virus, and afterward, he's driven by his infection to force others into becoming Trollges, including crossing the Moral Event Horizon by corrupting GF with said virus. After BF wakes up from a years-long sleep, he finds that Legion has turned everybody else in the world into Trollges and is so disgusted that he goes so far as to call Legion the one opponent he truly hates.
Starved is the main antagonist of the video Prey WITH LYRICS by popular YT musician Juno Songs. A version of Dr. Eggman from a timeline parallel to the original Sonic the Hedgehog video games, he was driven to madness after trying a bite of Mobian flesh. The taste was so addictive that he dedicated the rest of his life to capturing as many Mobians as possible in a never-ending attempt to void his endless hunger, going so far as to successfully murder his longtime arch-nemesis Sonic and to rip off one of Tails's tails before singing in a rap battle against him.
And speaking of rap battles, we get to where the problem lies...
Why are they not Pure Evil?[]
The community has had multiple discussions on this topic over the past few weeks, with a somewhat controversial consensus slowly growing out of it, and for a while, the arguments got so heated that users have faced threats and intimidation from others over the subject. However, with the problem users now out of the way and the consensus now being fully formed, it's been determined that there's one simple reason why no Friday Night Funkin' villain at all qualifies for Complete Monster status:
The entire premise of the game and its mechanics are far too inherently comedic and light-hearted in nature for the characters engaging in them to be taken nearly seriously enough to qualify.
Basically, you try to knock potentially world-ending threats down a peg or two by rap battling against them. And they, in turn, will rap with you simply for shits and giggles. Not only that, but multiple villains in this list are far too goofy in and of themselves to qualify, and their supposed preventions (such as Legion not being too comedic because his "Gigachad" form only appears for a very brief period) are extremely weak and reek of BoH argument. Given how the stories themselves are more often than not extremely vague and loosely strung together by level after level, it's very hard to argue for most of these villains that they have consistent enough behavior/motivation or clear enough goals to qualify for the status anyway.
Overall, the arguments for any one of these villains counting are extremely weak. Even for the lyrical cover versions, which comprise the majority of this list, the fact that they're twisted versions of characters from light-hearted children's media rap battling to explain their motivations makes them too comedic by their nature to qualify.
Consensus[]
Easy cut for all of these, and for the Friday Night Funkin' fanscene as a whole.
