Alright, been a bit since I last did a removal. Funny, for another candidate I previously got approved too.
So...yeah, looking back now, there are some issues with this version of Spamton I sorta just glossed over when I first proposed him, and after doing some further thinking, I think we need to talk about them here too.
What's the work?[]
Eh, I'll just copy and paste from the proposal I made last year: A Different Snowgrave is a Deltarune fangame/AU set in an alternate timeline where instead of freezing Berdly during the Snowgrave Route, Noelle freezes Kris. After Kris becomes frozen, the player's soul transports to Noelle and begins to use her as its new vessel, freezing even more people inside of Queen's mansion. Eventually, they would confront Spamton on the roof, who had hijacked Queen's massive robot and began using it as his new body.
Who is Spamton G. Spamton? What did he do?[]
You can read that here.
Why Doesn't He Qualify?[]
So...in the original proposal, I basically blew off Spamton's redeeming qualities from the game as non-existent since it was an AU. Now...it is true, yes, Spamton's redeeming qualities in this AU aren't really touched upon, not to mention the game doesn't have him redeemed and does at least make him dishonorable instead here. It's also still worth noting his care for Mike and Pipis probably also do not have any weight here since the game was made before those even got confirmed
However, there is one thing I kinda cannot get past now that I think about it; the game is literally just meant to be an alternate ending to the Snowgrave Route. It doesn't really do anything that retcons the events of the game prior to the twist of Kris being frozen instead of Berdly, which makes you wonder...is Spamton's tragedy still an issue? Where he basically goes nuts, loses everything he had, and becomes a puppet attached to strings, leaving him feeling pretty insecure about himself?
Yeah...it honestly is. Nothing in the AU goes out of its way to suggest it never happened or that it no longer has any weight to it. Hell, there is honestly enough evidence to support that it does still hold. Like he literally shuts down when he realizes Noelle doesn't recognize him, and goes on about how maybe he isn't big enough. Keep in mind, his insecurity stems from his tragedy.
Look at the whole thing like this; basically, everything about the continuity of this AU lines up with what happens in Deltarune, minus one major twist. There really is no good reason to believe that even if Spamton's other issues aren't a problem here, Spamton's tragedy isn't an issue. It actually still is. I've seen this comparison before from a friend on Discord, and I will explain it here; imagine there being a Star Wars story where basically every single event present in canon lines up fine. Darth Vader shows up and is really nasty and nothing redeeming about him from canon is depicted in the story, and he dies without redeeming. Does that automatically mean Vader is a Complete Monster? No...no it does not, as the story still treats his backstory as canon. Same real can be said about Spamton.
Final Verdict?[]
Yeah, my opinions on Spamton have certainly changed. I honestly say we should probably cut him; if Flowey doesn't count, then I don't really see the excuse for Spamton here.
