Viktor Alexandrovich Larionov is a major antagonist of The New Order: Last Days of Europe, a mod for Hearts of Irons 4. He is the villainous deuteragonist of Sergey Taboritsky's path and the main antagonist of After Midnight.

Larionov serves as a Russian field marshal in Komi and is affiliated with the Pasaionariyy leaders. However, his greatest importance and true affliction lies within the faction of Sergey Taboritsky.

Larionov serves as a minor protagonist in most of the Pasaionariyy paths and the deuteragonist of Sergey Taboritsky's path, before becoming the main protagonist of the latter's final part and the main antagonist of After Midnight. Although, he is also a potential playable character in the latter's post-game sandbox mode.

Post-Taboritsky[]

Following Taboritsky's death, Larionov succeeded his position as the Blessed Regent of the Holy Russian Empire. Originally, Larionov planned to bury Taboritsky in luxury, only to discovered the darkest secret of Taboritsky within his diary.

Horrified by the reveal, Larionov betrayed Taborisky immediately and cancelled the funeral, following the reveal of the latter's half-Jewish inheritance. He soon spilled the secret to the whole world, made up a lie that Larionov was the real chosen one by God to serve Prince Alexei, and painted his betrayal as a righteous coup.

After that, Larionov would start his own imperial cult of Prince Alexei and denounced Taboritsky as a fraud, who intended to sacrifice Alexei for devious purpose. He also continued to purge those that opposed him and those he deemed as inferior, despite putting a halt on toxic gas usage.

Nevertheless, Larionov soon faced many problems. Due to his reveal of Taboritsky's true inheritance to the entire Russia, plus the horrible effects of HRE's atrocities and the rise of resistance following this, Larionov would indirectly shatter the already crumbling Holy Russian Empire.

More and more regions would break away from the empire, including those who defied the Holy Russian Empire's tyranny, and those former HRE officers that turned against Larionov for different reasons (such as Dikiy and Evtukovich).

Eventually, all the Holy Russian Empire remained was the region of Vyatka, the place once under the control of Vladimir III's monarrchists, where Taborisky had formed his fringed theory. Its remnants struggled for survival through their largely remaining weaponry and clung on the "Alexei lives" delusions like fanatics, ironically making them no different from Taboritsky.

Even worse, Larionov's mental health started to give way due to his age, and hearing news about Altunin's resistance did not help it, either. All he could do was to deny that WRRF had survivors, rant like a mad dog, shot the messenger who informed him this news and screamed whoever Alexander Altunin was.

In the end, Larionov's mind received a devastating blow by his newly-suffered dementia, leaving him living in delusions and paranoia no better than Taboritsky's final days, sometimes even having trouble about where he was.

Finally, his right-hand and personal secretary, Andrey Odoyev, assumed the de-facto control of the diminished Holy Russian Empire. Meanwhile, Russia had fell into warlord anarchy once more, this time even worse than before. It would take decades to make Russia eventually healed from its wounds brought by Taboritsky and his minions with their horrendous atrocities.

After Midnight[]

In the sandbox gameplay, it is possible for Larionov to reunify Russia if the players choose to play as the Holy Russian Empire and declare a new regime known as the Holy Russian Redemption Authority, crushing all of his opponents.

In the potential post-reunification event, it is stated that Larionov chose to retire from his Regency and worked on to dismantle the cult of personality around Tsarevich Alexei. Whether or not this means some change in Larionov's mind remains unclear, but one thing is certain; the Holy Russian Empire's reign of terror would be continued, and Larionov would get away scot free.

Trivia[]

  • In the OTL, Larionov was a Russian writer who had reactionary and anti-communist views and supported the Russian White Army. He later took part in the Russian Liberation Army and became a pro-Nazi collaborator.
    • In the real life, Larionov also took part in the National Organization of Russian Youth, which was founded by Taboritsky. This is presumably the basis of their partnership in TNO.
  • Andrey Odoyev, who served as Larionov's secretary and later the one in charge following Larionov's dementia problems, was an entirely fictional character created by TNO.
  • Prior to After Midnight, the Holy Russian Empire's downfall in the earlier version would have ended up differently than the current version. Originally, following Taboritsky's death, the Holy Russian Empire would have ended up diminishing and becoming shut down, only with radio that repeatedly proclaimed that Alexei lived. It eventually became a pitch-black state of anarchy, a leaderless and unpopulated wasteland.
    • Following the After Midnight update, the story continued with Larionov taking charge. The process of the Holy Russian Empire's diminishing was replaced with warlords breaking away from it, with most of the land now covered with breakaway states, along with Larionov's remnants.
    • The only anarchy place in the post-Midnight Russia, the only one that would become unpopulated wastelands, is now the northeastern region of the Far East (which was originally controlled by Alexander Men), now known as the Wilderness.
