Vincent (also known as Purple Guy or Phone Guy) is the secondary antagonist of Tyler Ahlström's "The Return to Freddy's" FNaF fan-game series.
He appears as the deuteragonist-turned-final antagonist of The Return to Freddy's, the deuteragonist of The Return to Freddy's 2, the posthumous overarching antagonist of The Return to Freddy's 3 and a posthumous antagonist in The Return to Freddy's 4. He is also one of the main protagonists of The Return to Freddy's: The Dreadful Truth and the secondary antagonist of LORE.txt.
He is a high ranking employee of Fredbear's Family Diner and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, and a serial killer responsible for murdering several children since the inception of the first restaurant, being the cause of numerous tragedies that have plagued Fazbear establishments. He is also the killer and arch-nemesis of Lockjaw, an employee of Alison Bäirren, and the childhood friend of Grön Takaliken.
He is voiced by Tyler Ahlström, the creator of the series.
Appearance[]
It is unknown how how Vincent actually looked like, as the only time he is seen outside of the mini-games he is wearing a Golden Freddy suit that doesn't reveal any part of his actual appearance. In the mini-games, Vincent appears identical to William Afton's sprites from the original FNaF, being portrayed as a schematical crudely-drawn purple figure with a smile on his face and black eyes/eye sockets with glowing white pupils, and a golden security guard badge on his chest. He is sometimes seen holding a phone.
In TRTF 1 he appears as a pink/light purple figure that lacks pupils.
Personality[]
It is unknown if there was something that happened to Vincent that caused him to become a chlid murderer, or if he was always this bad. He is shown to be very sadistic throughout all the TRTF 1-4 minigames, usually smiling while killing kids and sometimes he even takes advantage of things to isolate and kill his victim, seen when he uses the Vigo kid being bullied by other kids to isolate him and then murder him. When murdering children he really enjoys causing them pain, seeing them suffer and die slowly, seen as how he smiles at BFP dying inside of Lockjaw in one of the minigames in Trtf 3 or how he causes kids in trtf 4 minigames to bleed from their faces (probably by making several cuts on their faces or beating them up) while smiling and possibly even laughing as indicated by the sound that plays when attacking the kids. He also seems to believe he did nothing wrong or that he doesn't deserve punishment, as in his TRTF 1 night 5 phone call before something is about to kill him he tells Mike he doesn't know why any of this always happens to him despite him being a killer finally facing consequences.
He is also shown to be manipulative and a backstabber, seen as he treats Mike Schmidt like a friend and even vents to him about his problems and makes sure Mike survives the nights by telling him what to do, only to try and kill him one day. While he possibly respected and had a genuine friendship with Gron, his first thought in LORE.txt when seeing Gron die is that he will get arrested due to being the last recorded person in the room, rather than the fact his childhood friend died infront of him implying he never even cared about him in the first place. It is possible that he could've influenced or even manipulated Gron into becoming a killer like him by taking advantage of the loss of his family and kid to make him put other parents in the same position as him. In LORE.txt he is also said to stop Gron from killing kids and murdering them himself and the document states he did it to satisfy Gron's urges of killing kids but also knew Gron wouldn't be able to bare murdering the kida or seeing their corpses. It's possible he used Gron's bloodlust as an excuse to kill or saw it as a chance to have a friend who was okay with him murdering children.
Biography[]
Not much is known about Vincent's past prior to working at Fazbear INC, except for that he met and befriended Gron a long time ago when they were both children.
1943-GoldieParaDiner[]
Factory of Horrors[]
On October 19th, 1943, Vincent along with his friend Gron would get a job at the newly opened GoldieParaDiner as well as the factory that produced animatronics for it. Alongside manufacturing robots for Fazbear INC, Gron would work as a jester/entertainer at GoldieParaDiner, while Vincent worked as an accountant who would occasionally record training tapes for suited performers. One day, Gron and Vincent noticed that their boss Alison was acting suspicious so they decided to stealthily follow him to the back of the factory where they saw him poking at tiles on the wall (which were in reality disguised buttons that he was pressing) in a very specific order before the wall began to open as if it were a door, revealing a set of stairs that Alison walked down. Gron and Vincent memorized the pattern of the buttons and opened the wall themselves after he went down, following behind him. At the bottom of the stairs, they would see something they would never forget....
They saw their co-workers being tortured, enslaved, and forced to worship a false idol known as the Torture Device and being stuffed in "Torture Suits" that would drain their blood for fuel from head to toe. The men in purple and green decided to put an end to this nightmare, they found a machine that was producing all these torture suits. Unaware of what to do to stop it, they began to break and sabotage the machine. Alison found them breaking the machine and chased after them, but they successfully managed to escape and block the entrance, trapping Alison inside the complex temporarily. They could not see their job the same way ever again after finding out this horrible secret.
On December 23rd, Gron decided to go somewhere with his family to celebrate an early Christmas, when suddenly a car driven by Alison crashed into them, hospitalizing Gron's entire family. Whilst they were in the hospital, Alison would send one of his henchmen to disguise as a doctor and disable his wife's life support, killing her infront of Gron's very eyes and driving him insane. While Gron suffered punishment for sabotaging the machine and foiling Alison's plans, Vincent strangely seemed to get no consequence despite being involved in the same thing. The reason for this is unknown, but it can be assumed Alison favored Vincent over Gron in some way.
The First Murders[]
At some point after this, Vincent would dress up in a spare Spring Bonnie suit at GoldieParaDiner and lure five children to the backroom, where he would take off the costume and murder each and every one of them (His exact motive for doing this is unknown and varies between timelines, though it could be to taint Fazbear INC's reputation and get the company shut down) and then proceed to throw their bodies into the garbage disposal pipes to get rid of them.
The Witness[]
One day, Vincent would walk into the bunker of GoldieParaDiner where two prototype spring-lock suits (that were in reality torture suits) that were deemed unstable and unfit for employees to wear were stored. There, he could not believe what he saw; his friend Gron was torturing his own son who was hooked to a wall. Gron's insanity had made him into a bloodthirsty murderer just like Vincent, but Gron would not last long after this as when he turned around, the voices in his head began telling him to enter the Golden Frankburt torture suit infront of him. Gron walked forwards and before he knew it, an object below his feet had made him slip into the suit. Vincent watched as the torture mechanisms of the suit drained his friends blood from head to toe, just like he saw happening to the slaves at the secret wall. Vincent looked back at the child hooked to the wall and he realized that he had freed himself from the hooks, and ran away while Vincent wasn't looking. Vincent was paranoid he would be blamed for hurting the child due to being the last recorded person in the room, and decided he couldn't let him escape. He chased after Gron's son, but there was too big of a crowd in the room outside for him to chase him there. Vincent decided the child would live for now, but lived in constant paranoia of the possiblity of the child reporting him to the police. Gron was dead and Vincent was now alone with a high risk of getting caught by the police due to a witness being alive, and GoldieParaDiner would shut down shortly after due to both the murders of the children Vincent killed as well as Gron's death.
1958-Frankburt's Pizza[]
Vincent would change his name to Fritz Smith to avoid getting caught for what happened at GoldieParaDiner and a new location owned by Fazbear INC named Frankburt's Pizza would open sometime later, but this time with alot smaller budget due to customers not trusting the company anymore after what happened at the last location. This time, the mascot would be a character named Frankburt, as well as a pink cat named Kitty FazCat. Vincent, now known as Fritz would work there, but on one day he would see Gron's son in the crowd in the room where Frankburt was performing. He knew that if the kid saw him he would recognize him, and there was no spring-lock suit in the building to lure him away with this time like he did with the other kids. Vincent had to retaliate and let the boy live for now until he saw him again and got an opportunity to kill him. Frankburt's would close not that long after due to it being a failure.
1975-Fredbear's Family Diner[]
The New Location[]
Mr. Fredbear, the owner of the 2 prievous establishments would start a new location; Fredbear's Family Diner. Vincent, now known as Fritz was the manager of this location. The owner changed the mascots from a yellow bear and bunny to a brown bear named Freddy Fazbear, a blue bunny named Bonnie, a yellow chicken named Chica, and a fox named Foxy. There were other secondary mascots as well such as Sugar the Cat, Dug the Dog, Kitty FazCat 2.0, and the Marionette. Frankburt from the last location was also stored in the back for safekeeping, as well as an old suit from GPD. While Mr. Fredbear saw this place as another shot of trying to give kids happiness, Fritz saw this as a chance to bait the child of Gron into coming there so Fritz would get the opportunity to kill him once and for all and live a stress free life where he would never be caught. One day he saw him, he saw the child that's been making him experience all of this paranoia, a thought that often came back to haunt him. Fritz was excited, he had finally tricked the child into coming into his domain and there was no way he could fail this time.
BFP's Death[]
With his knowledge of operating the suits, Fritz donned the Fredbear suit and went outside into the crowd. He isolated the boy from others and told him to follow him to the back of the building. When they got there, Fritz took off the Fredbear mask and the boy instantly recognized him as Vincent, the man who was hellbent on disposing of him once and for all. The boy screamed and cried, but was silenced by the man as he began to beat him up and throw him around, making sure he felt as much pain as possible. In a desperate attempt to get away from Vincent, the boy crawled into the empty Frankburt suit but Vincent laughed as the torture mechanisms of the Frankburt suit activated, killing the boy slowly. Vincent felt a sense of relief wash over him now that the only remaining problem in his life was gone. Vincent took off the Golden Freddy suit, putting it exactly where it was before he wore it. He then left the room, believing his life would be perfect with no issues from now on, but little did he know, he had just made a mistake that would make his life even worse.
The boy's spirit would wander around the place, looking for someone to help him. But nobody could see him, nobody that was alive atleast. The boy would eventually find other kids who were killed just like him. They were all looking for revenge against Vincent, the man who mercilessly killed all of them for seemingly no reason. Gron's son had an idea, that they would all possess the animatronics at Fredbear's and attempt to kill Vincent in them. Gron's son, acting as their leader, would possess the Marionette and help the other kids possess the other animatronics. Fritz would be working at the place as usual, thinking he had won, but the animatronics swore to get their revenge on him, no matter what. At the end of the nightguard's week, he would file a complaint saying that the animatronics moved around at night. Fritz was confused by this and paranoid that something had been going on.
On one of the last days of the restaurant operating, someone would buy it out with the plan to remake the restaurant.
1987-Freddy Fazbear's Pizza[]
The Second Murders and the Bite of 87[]
The new owner decided to rebrand the place to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, now with brand new toy animatronics that would replace the original ones, scared that the original ones had something wrong with them or that they were possessed by his victims.
One night, Fritz had to clear his mind of stress and assure himself that nothing was wrong. He would don the Golden Freddy suit once again, and kill five more children to prove to himself he was just being paranoid and that ghosts aren't real, but what Fritz didn't realize was that he was too reckless, the spirits of his victims saw everything that happened and started becoming more and more vengeful. The building was later investigated by the police following the disappearances of the children and Fritz was questioned for it but wasn't arrested.
The nail in the coffin for this location was when during a birthday party, one of the animatronics possessed by Vincent's victims bit off someone's frontal lobe. This event would be dubbed "The Bite of 87" and Freddy's would be shut down for a very long time.
2015-Freddy Fazbear's Pizza[]
Final Location and Phone Guy's Death[]
The CEO opened a new Freddy's with a lower budget using repaired versions of the original animatronics rather than the toy animatronics, this place of course didn't do very well. Because he couldn't hire a nightguard, Fritz would take the nightshift himself during the first week and record phone calls while in the office for the next guard who takes the position after him. The animatronics were possessed and bloodthirsty however, and they instantly recognized that Fritz was their killer. They would attempt to kill him throughout the entire week, getting more and more aggressive. On Fritz's last night, all of them tried to attack him at once, but when he looked behind him he was attacked by a golden Freddy, it looked like the same suit he used to kill some of the kids in. Before he knew it, he was inside of the Golden Freddy suit. Due to his knowledge of the spring-lock suits, he managed to survive the stuffing and escaped, although he was now alot more paranoid and scared. Thankfully, the position of nightguard was taken by someone named Mike Schmidt, who Fritz seems to have considered a friend.
Even after Mike's last week, Mike came back to the building to work even more shifts. This time, Fritz would talk to him directly through the phone instead of leaving pre-recorded calls. Fritz sounded worried and scared, hearing whispers around him and seeing things that aren't there. On Mike's fifth night of working there again Fritz felt as if someone was coming to kill him and the call abruptly ended. Fritz was seemingly dead.
The Murderer's Last Attempt...[]
NOTE: The information below seems to have been retconned out of the final lore, as in all later versions of the story Vincent is simply killed on Night 5.
Mike came back to work at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza for one more night. The animatronics were active as usual, but then something unexpected happened. There was loud banging on the door, and he checked the window to see who it was. It was a golden Freddy, but it wasn't just any other animatronic. It appeared to be a person inside of a suit. The person began yelling at Mike that he's coming for him in a familiar voice. It was Fritz, Mike's friend from the phone. A person Mike considered a friend was now trying to kill him just like any other animatronic. Mike wore the Freddy mask, which for some reason made Fritz leave. At the end of the night, the police arrived to the building. They found Fritz Smith banging on the office door and identified him as the murderer that killed kids at Freddy's, and he was detained and arrested. Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was now safe once again, or so they thought... Even if Vincent was gone, the souls of his victims were still trapped... they still hadn't moved on... and they wouldn't move on until someone destroyed their vessels, once and for all.
Trivia[]
- His name is obviously a reference to Rebornica's FNAF AU, which led the FNAF Fandom to think the Purple Guy was called "Vincent" due to it being his name in said comic.
- Vincent's exact killer varies between timelines. In the original game it is implied to be a parent of some kind, as they say things like "My son...". In The Return to Freddy's: Dreadful Truth, this is said to be the spirit of Lynda, the wife of Gron. However, in the TRTF 5 Minigames and LORE.txt, the killer of Vincent is instead the Kitty FazCat child, the girlfriend of Gron's son.
- It is heavily implied that Golden Freddy on Night 6 of the first TRTF game is actually Vincent wearing a Golden Freddy suit to kill Mike, with the evidence being that Golden Freddy on Night 6 has a different behavior than Night 5 where he bangs on the door and has a different jumpscare where it shows his full body instead of appearing as a ghost in the office and the jumpscare being only his head. In the news article shown after beating Night 6, it states that the killer had arrived to the building and banged at the office door, but was caught by the police. The minigames also show Vincent dressing up in the Golden Freddy suit, confirming Vincent had infact worn a Golden Freddy suit at some point.
- In the files for TRTF 1, the sprite for Golden Freddy's jumpscare in Night 6 is named "Murderer", which further implies if not outright confirms this.
