Nathan Richards, a.k.a. Vinnie the Puppeteer, or Reverse Puppet, is the overarching antagonist of both the Five Nightmares at Freddy's trilogy and Five Nightmares at Candy's duology.
He is the evil counterpart of The Puppet and the true one responsible for the events of both franchises by not killing The RAT and The CAT when they were humans but by also being the one who corrupted William Afton into the serial killer he is today and destroying the Afton Family out of petty spite towards Fazbear Entertainment.
Roles[]
He is the unseen overarching antagonist in the Five Nightmares at Freddy's trilogy and prequel Afton, a cameo antagonist in Five Nightmares at Candy's, the overarching antagonist of Five Nightmares at Randy's, and is the titular main antagonist of the other prequel of the same name.
Early Life[]
Nothing is known about his life before the events of his prequel but it's been confirmed that this version is named Nathan Richards and he was always a horrible and egotistical person since birth and childhood.
At some point, he still got a job at Randy and Candy's theatre as an actor named Vinnie and worked alongside other actors called Randy the Rat and Candy the Cat while being married with 2 kids but didn't get along with his co-workers, hated children for being so annoying, neglected his family for his own work, and even cheated on his wife with his own secretary, which the said wife responded back by also having an affair as well.
However, things will end up changing on the day that a 10-year-old girl named Natalie Smith visits the theatre for a birthday party with her friends.
Vinnie[]
After the show, he caught a drunken Randy searching for Natalie in the dressing room during hide and seek but didn't listen to him about trying to find her and accused him of being drunk, which the said actor responded by bragging about being the star.
They get into an argument which ended up escalating when Randy angrily started strangling Vinnie for insulting him but Vinnie violently pushed him off and caused him to fall neck first on a chair, breaking the actor's neck and accidentally killing him.
Shocked by this and unaware that Natalie witnessed this in horror, he then got more worried about going to jail for this and tried to think of a plan to handle this but then got visited by Candy, who was horrified to find the body.
Claiming self-defense and begging him to please not call the police about this, Candy still decided to try and call the police about this, which Vinnie decided to prevent that by strangling him to death.
After being done, he started planning a fake story for the police but then found Natalie in the closet and quickly covered her mouth before threatening her into not telling anyone what happened, which she understood in fear.
Once the police showed up, he pretended to escort her out and comfort her but still secretly threatened her into telling anyone and vowed to kill if she did so, making her unable to rat him out. However, she overcame a nightmare about it and was able to bravely report him to the police the next morning, which she was able to do by showing hidden footage about it.
At his apartment, he is angered from this that he murders his wife, her lover, and the kids out of rage after they lecture him over this, which resulted in his arrest later on.
In court, he was found guilty of 6 murders and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, which he angrily responded by vowing revenge on Natalie and everyone she loved so much.
In prison, he spent a lot of years in there until Natalie's adulthood and broke his way out of prison by killing 4 inmates and 5 guards that got in the way.
Outside the prison, he came across an angry driver that cursed him for walking on the road but he responded back to him by killing him with a headshot and stealing his car.
At his old childhood home, he snuck into his room and slept there for the night due to the drive being very long and tiring but made sure to check if his parents weren't home.
In the morning, he got dressed into his old clothes to change out of his prison jumpsuit and started collecting some money that he always hid as a kid, most likely having stolen it in the past.
In the living room, he found his parents having breakfast and lied about staying with them for a while but they then saw the news and he decided to kill them with a gun to prevent them from calling the police, making himself an orphan now.
After doing so, he went to the stolen car and started driving away to go get weapons, his old costume, his old lover, and to kill Natalie for ratting him out.
At the gun store, he started buying and checking out all the weapons that he was choosing but the owner recognized him and Vinne quickly killed him with a shotgun blast before leaving.
At his old apartment, he found some old lady living there and ended up busting the door open before gunning the lady down with a silencer pistol and then hiding her body in the bathroom as he collects his old costume from his hiding spot.
As he was loading up to prepare for his revenge, he saw the news about him and decided to leave his old apartment behind since it will pose a danger to him but does burn it to the ground to cover his tracks.
As he went to his former lover's apartment, he was angered to find her moving on without him and saw that as betraying him, so he murdered the couple but went too far by raping his former lover until he finally murdered her.
After doing so, he then retrieved his own money that he gave to her and spent another night in the place, having gotten tired again from doing all of his murderous work.
The next morning, he decided to burn the place down to cover his tracks again and out of petty spite towards the former lover for moving on without him, ignoring that she rightfully dumped him for his crimes.
At Natalie's house, he pretended to be an old family friend and asked for her whereabouts but the parents knew his true nature and he then massacred the house one by one, killing the parents and the 2 officers that were protecting them.
However, he admitted to them that he was going to kill them anyways out of spite towards Natalie for how he killed his own family, selfishly blaming her for that and deciding to kill her family just to taunt her.
After doing so, he tracked her location to a park where her workplace is having a picnic there and decided to go there to finally complete his revenge, leaving her dead parents behind to mock her.
At the park, he finally found her and saw that she was doing a business retreat with others but she was able to see Vinnie and got scared to recognize him, which her boss fortunately saw and rightfully asked him to leave.
Unfortunately, Vinnie took out his pistol and knock the boss down via whipping him in the face with it as Natalie and their co-workers saw this in horror and try to run away but Vinnie stopped Natalie via injuring her.
As Natalie distracted him to protect the others, Vinnie confronted her and taunted her over what's happening while selfishly blaming her for the events and complaining that she ruined his life so he now wanted to ruin her, still not accepting this as his own fault.
However, Natalie just bravely glared at him and wasn't scared of him but he noticed this and decided to sadistically taunt her by cruelly asking if she believed in God, which she angrily admitted that she did and always will.
After hearing her answer, he mocked her by telling her to go meet God in Heaven before pointing at the pistol at her forehead and pulling the trigger, killing her but she just bravely closed her eyes in acceptance at her unavoidable tragic demise.
However, her death wasn't in vain as she successfully kept him distracted long enough for the police to arrive but he managed to avoid arrest by putting the gun in his mouth and pulling trigger, taking his own life to avoid arrest.
After his suicide, his killing spree got reported on the news and he was remembered as a sadistic murderer who killed innocent people without cause while everyone was left mourning the death of a brave innocent woman that just chose to save everyone.
However, no one knew that he would end up possessing his old puppet, which he called the Reverse Puppet just mock the other Puppet from Fazbear Entertainment, who turned out to be Natalie's daughter and the Emily Family had understandably mourned her.
As the Reverse Puppet, he decided to spite humanity and other happy people by manipulating the events of all this world's franchises by corrupting those that are killers.
Afton[]
He is never shown nor mentioned in the prequel but it's confirmed that he's responsible for William Afton's turn to villainy and responsible for the death of the Afton family out of petty spite towards them for being happy while he wasn't, making him also responsible for that franchise as well.
Even worse, he's the one who activated William's spring-locks and turned him into Springtrap, not caring that the guy was living a fate worse than death and just wanted a villain for the franchise.
Five Nightmares at Candy's[]
He only appears in a brief cameo in a camera footage but it's confirmed that he's the one who manipulated The RAT into killing the twin siblings and causing them to become Candy the Cat and Cindy the Cat, who were tricked into blaming Mary Schmidt for what happened to them.
Not to mention, he's also the one who tricked the band into thinking that Mary rejected them and abandoned them by causing them to sponge off of her and framing her for being a bad friend.
Five Nightmares at Randy's[]
He finally appears as the overarching antagonist of this installment and pretending to be a henchman to The RAT as way of hiding his true nature as the mastermind while also recruiting The CAT, the New Candy, and the New Cindy for the cause.
He eventually meets the factory's new security guard Vanessa Afton and plans to kill her while also wanting to leave the factory to kill the rest of humanity.
Once their fight happens, Vanessa angrily recognizes him as the evil mastermind of this operation and he just sadistically taunts her over this while vowing to her that he can't wait to exterminate the world for what happened to him, causing her to just angrily beat him up for his crimes but leaving him for the RAT.
Unsurprisingly, the RAT heard everything and angrily confronts his killer, who can only try and make false excuses or selfish lies to no avail because his true nature is now revealed.
Because of this, the RAT finally remembers him and angrily takes his long-awaited revenge on the now scared mastermind via grabbing his head and slowly crushing it before brutally slamming it on the floor, killing him once again and also avenging the deaths of any victims that were killed by this guy.
Fortunately, his death was also in vain as Vanessa not only defeated the RAT and the CAT but also burnt the factory down to make sure that the reign of terror is over once and for all while still avenging his victims and freeing their souls.
Even more, she still managed to expose the company's corruption and get it shut down for how many deaths that it has been causing all the time without a care, even having Vinnie exposed as even more of a sadistic mastermind.
Five Nightmares at Freddy's Trilogy[]
Despite his demise, he is still responsible for a few events happening and is actually the one making people go angry on the 3rd day of the event while also controlling the Animatronics to attack innocent people as a way to have an outlet for anger.
He's also the one who caused Mike and Mary's parents to die along with Vincent Afton's wife and kid just to spite them for being happy while he wasn't.
Even more, he's also the one that prevented William from redeeming himself.
Defeat[]
After William goes to Hell and Vinnie's crimes are revealed, the latter not only has no remorse for his crimes but instead sadistically brags about being a really true genius and evil mastermind that has always been the bigger threat this whole time.
Disgusted by his lack of remorse and now seeing him as a monster, Natalie calls him out for his pettiness and points out how he ruined his own life by choosing to be a serial killer and demonic monster who wants to be the only one happy in his life.
However, Vinnie pins her down when she tries to stand up to him and mocks her for trying to redeem him before he then claims that she'll have to spend the rest of her life as one of his souls but she was only distracting him as she then breaks his puppet.
When she did this, she releases the souls of the victims and they help her defeat him before they then drag him away and send him to Oblivion for his crimes, ignoring his attempted begging for mercy as his soul is erased and trapped for eternity.
Because of this, not only did Natalie avenge everyone of both franchises (including her family) but also defeated and destroyed Vinnie once and for all while his influence is lifted and his reign of terror is permanently over.
Even better, she is reunited with Henry and Charlotte once again, all of them happy to be a family again and are gladly accepted into Heaven with the other innocent victims.
Sadly, William doesn't forgive himself for what he's done and even admits that he won't blame her for hating him but instead of that, she decides to forgive him and he tearfully thanks her for it before returning to Hell.
Overall, she managed to end the entire franchise on a happy note because of this and decided to move on from what happened, only being glad that the real villain is gone for good.
Personality[]
Even before becoming evil, Vinnie was already an abusive, neglectful, egotistical, arrogant, selfish, greedy, unfaithful, and ungrateful jerk who let fame get to his head and didn't care about his family, hated children, and annoyed his co-workers.
After killing his 1st victim, he might've showed shock at this but started showing hints of his true nature by being more concerned about his career and reputation while resorting to strangling the 2nd victim to avoid arrest and threatening Natalie into silence, which the latter was a child at the time and didn't know what would happen.
Once Mary ratted him out to the police, he showed an even more true evil nature as also a vengeful, unforgiving, petty, spiteful, sadistic, manipulative, obsessive, and delusional psychopath and sociopath who vowed to kill her for this and was also willing to kill his own family out of paranoia and former lover for moving on from him while ignoring his own faults at all.
After killing Natalie, he was also shown to be a dirty coward who chose to kill himself and avoid arrest instead of deciding to fight them after he was already planning to kill the other employees just to spite her again.
As a spirit, he becomes even worse by corrupting William Afton and destroying his life out of petty spite towards him for being happier than him and caused other events to happen for the same reason.
When his crimes are exposed, he shows no remorse for his crimes but instead seems to be gleeful about how the events were his own doing and that he was a true mastermind, showing himself to be beyond redemption and salvation.
However, he's still a coward as always when he starts begging for undeserved mercy after Natalie destroys his powers and leaves him to being punished by his victims, showing himself to still not be all that tough and brave.
Trivia[]
- In this alternate universe, he's now pretty much more hated than William Afton, who was given a tragic backstory and was now an honorable villain who accepted his own defeat while Vinnie lacks those qualities and is a dishonorable coward who turns out to be the reason why William became a serial killer and also was the one who gave off the corrupting energy that would make anyone go psycho in the 1st place.
- Speaking of which, his new name "Vinnie" is based on William's original fan made name and to mock the name of William's son Vincent Afton, who is Michael Afton in this franchise but got a name change because Mike Schmidt is a separate character.
- Similar to the above reason, his real name Nathan Richards is based on the fan lore about his real name, which others expected it to also be secretly Vincent but his rivalry with William had confirmed it to be out of mockery.
- Despite Henry Emily being the hero antagonist in Afton, Vinnie is technically the unseen main antagonist as well since it was him who corrupted William and made him into the killer he is.
- He's pretty much so hated that even his fellow villains hate him but this would only make sense since he's the reason why they're like this and The RAT only hates him for killing him.
- Ironically, he's also indeed the Reverse Flash to The Puppet's Flash due to being the opposite of her and even being the one who indeed killed her mother, especially also being the mastermind of the franchise.
- Heck, he can also be blamed for destroying the rest of the family via controlling William to kill her too and technically causing Henry to be spring locked as well in a Fredbear suit.
