SSRQ VoidSteve

Void Steve is the creator of the parasitic legion known as the Darkness and the main antagonist of the entire Steve Cinematic Universe. Upon believing that there was no other solution to combat the demonic beings that threatened his world, he turned to corruption and violence to try and re-imagine the world as a peaceful utopia under his command. Because of the manipulation and carnage he's wreaked upon the universe, he serves as FavreMySabre's most personal and deadly nemesis.

General Tropes[]

  • Classic Villain: Pride and envy: his overarching goal was to regain the Rainbow Crystals and return to full power. Everything he has ever done was motivated by nothing out of pure megalomania and a pathological desire to obtain as much power as possible. He envied Rainbow Steve for having the power he believed was wrongly stripped from him. Void Steve's envy of others having the power he lost only served as a major factor to the inflammation of his ego, becoming genuinely deluded that he was the only person capable of saving the world and never having a scene where he didn't show at least some arrogance or overconfidence.
  • Evil Overlord: A dark being that was locked in another dimension for many years after attempting to enslave the world with his army of Darkness and eventually progressed from ruling over Darkness to ruling over demons. Definitely checks all the boxes of a classic tyrant.
  • Foil:
    • To Colle: Colle was naive, curious, but never strayed from his ideals, even when they potentially put others in danger or made others distrust him as he knew that ultimately his activities would positively impact his allies. In contrast to Void Steve, his former friend, who, while also never straying from his ideals, never made the effort to realise how what he was doing was wrong and locked himself in an echo chamber where he had convinced himself he was in the right, never acknowledging his flaws or tried to improve.
    • To Sabre: All Sabre wanted to do since day one of entering the Steves' world was help them thrive and keep them safe from danger. Void's perception of this idea was twisted and rooted in delusions, as although altruistic, his motivations and entire personality devolved into being fuelled by ego and greed.
    • To Rainbow Steve: For fairly obvious reasons, as both were the holders of the Rainbow Crystals, however, to go deeper into specifics, while Rainbow Steve did have a bout of overconfidence, it was mostly misguided and never directed to offend or make others feel inferior, whereas Void flaunted his power constantly and made sure that everyone knew who he was and what he was capable of. Rainbow Steve also upheld the values of the Steves and the values given by the Violet Steves; to love everyone, compared to how Void trampled these values and never cared for anyone but himself.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Although other antagonists had some humorous moments during their confrontations and were coupled with anticipating music, the mood severely dampens whenever Void Steve arrives, with his ambience being dark and nightmarish and every character halting whatever goofy activity they're doing to stop and join the fight against him. Absolutely everyone takes Void seriously, including those who are timid, uncaring, easy-going or naive like Rainbow and Elemental Steve. Even beings that are far more powerful such as the First Curse never reach the level of dread and danger, with Void being the one who is always taken seriously, even if he's not in the room and the casual mention of his name is tossed around.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Void Steve only requires the push of a button to bend entire groups of people into doing his dirty work, whether they be working alongside him or unknowingly helping to fulfil his plans, he treats everyone around him as a puppet to exploit and never sees anyone as actual living beings, and is perfectly willing to exploit their thoughts, feelings and emotions for his own personal gain.
  • The Chessmaster: Perfectly anticipated how every event leading up to his release from the Void would play out and orchestrated additional events such as resurrecting Nightmare Steve as his henchman to help speed up the process and give the protagonists more reasons to travel to his prison. Oh yeah, and he single-handedly set up the events of everything in the series by manipulating Sabre into arriving in the Steves' world.
  • The Corrupter: In a physical and mental sense. Void Steve used the Darkness to physically change and mutate Steves into beings that operated through a hive mind and a darkness-infused physiology. Said hive mind was also able to induce mental anguish within others such as the Orange Leader, and he himself emotionally manipulated Rainbow Steve directly by using his own insecurities to twist his perception of what it meant to be a hero.
  • The Heavy: Responsible for everything that happened in the entire series, or rather continuing it. He created the Darkness with the intention of covering it across the world and slaughtered several civilizations that posed a potential threat to his operations. He nearly drove the Red Steves to extinction and forced them into hiding before being banished to the Void, although his reign of terror didn't stop there. He continued to manipulate people, tricking Sabre into entering the Steves' world and gathering the crystals and having Nightmare Steve do his dirty work until he was able to break free from the Void. Upon returning to the world above, Void nearly covered the world in Darkness, killing Rainbow Steve in the process and taking the Rainbow Crystals for himself before being slain by Sabre and sent to the World Below. Fortunately, his deal with the First Curse allowed him to become immortal and he returned once more, now leading the Demon Steves with the same intentions he had with the Darkness before finally being put down for good by Shadow Sabre. If Void Steve hadn't have brought Sabre into the Steves' world, the multiverse likely wouldn't have opened and lead to the events of Twisted Rainbow.
  • The Sociopath: Checks all the boxes easily. Lack of empathy; he doesn't care about how many lives he's had to ruin just to progress his plans, openly admits that he gains satisfaction from being feared and is completely unbothered and A-Okay with committing cold-blooded murder and terrorism. Liar and manipulator; he masterminded nearly every event in the series, including that of Sabre's arrival to the Steves' world and the creation of the third Rainbow Steve. He repeatedly lied and manipulated to Rainbow Steve to get in his head and only used him as a pawn until he outlived his usefulness and tried to redeem himself at the last second. Incapable of forming meaningful bonds; any compassion and friendships he once had have been reduced to mere memories of his past live and locked in a box without a key, he views friendship as completely lacking value and prioritises power over establishing communication with others, not only his own henchmen and primary source of power. Sense of self-importance; an absolutely egotistical narcissist that cares for no one but himself and sees himself as the solution for all the world's problems, he genuinely views himself as better than others because of his power and arrogantly brushes off those he considers inferior. He appears to be a high-functional type given his complex, non-single minded-driven goals and several generations worth of characterisation.

YMMV[]

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Did Void Steve kill off all the Biome Steves because he just wanted to get them out the way, or was he reluctant to do so because he wanted to make them join his army and live eternally alongside him as part of the Darkness, with his genocide of them was an act of mercy?
    • Did Void Steve really consider letting Colle help him return to normal, or did he really know he was too far gone at this point and embraced his newfound villainy? Judging by his actions later down the line, the latter is more likely.
  • Catharsis Factor: After all the pain Void has put Sabre, Rainbow Steve and literally every other main, major or minor character in the series through, seeing him die for the second and last time at the hands of his own creation is definitely deserving and immensely satisfying.
  • Love to Hate: Void Steve has committed numerous atrocities that shocked many in-universe characters and viewers alike, yet he is praised for his excellent characterisation, which is considered to be far superior compared to his original Steve Saga variation.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Smart, intelligent and brilliant, Void Steve is fiercely determined to accomplish his goals of world domination no matter the costs and will stop at nothing to achieve his idea of a peaceful utopia under his rule, and will manipulate and deceit those who have darkness in their hearts with false kindness and promises of power.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Massacring several civilisations of Steves, driving them to extinction and nearly doing the same to the Red Steves, forcing them into hiding in the years to come, and although his goals later down the line were noble, he originally wanted to eradicate all life in existence just because he saw it as the right thing to do.
    • Manipulating Sabre into gathering the Rainbow Crystals, essentially making every major character up until his return a mere pawn in his game.
    • Brainwashing Rainbow Steve into becoming his ally and killing him after he outlived his usefulness, absorbing the crystals from him and becoming all-powerful.
    • Murdering Funny Orange Steve in cold blood right in front of Sabre, serving as the final catalyst that brought Shadow Sabre to life and caused Sabre many problems even after Void Steve's death.
  • Shocking Moments : Seeing Void kill off Rainbow Steve was inevitable, given what happened in the original series, but even so, the manner of which was completely unexpected, with Rainbow being unable to speak and forced to suffer as he was killed and returned to the Orange Crystal.
  • Signature Scene: Void Steve rising to power right after killing Rainbow Steve is absolutely terrifying, especially since it showcased something that hadn't yet happened in the series; the villain winning.
