William Afton, later known as Springbonnie Killer, Springtrap and Scraptrap is the main antagonist of Keksz1234's Five Nights at Freddy's film saga.
He is the father of Michael Afton, Norman Afton, Elizabeth Afton, and Joseph Afton, the founder of Afton Robotics, business partner of Henry Emily at Fazbear Entertainment, and the man who killed numerous children that would go on to possess the animatronics. He later became a paranormal being after getting his body fused with one of his animatronic creations.
He is portrayed by Willem Dafoe on his first villainous fanon role.
History[]
Early Life[]
Much of Afton's childhood and early life was shrouded in mystery for years as the man never cared to share information about to anyone throughout his life. However, in the years following his disappearance (in reality, his first demise) in 1993, criminal psychologist, Saul Ramsland began to investigate and many of the information he found was written in his best selling book, Springbonnie: The full story of William Afton (1925-1993?) which was published in 2005.
William Afton was born on the 16th of April in 1925, Chicago.
According to his former teachers in both kindergraten, primary and high schools, William has already shown signs of slefish anti-social behaivor, bullying the other children occasionally stealing their treasured toys from them. He was also very cruel to animals, hitting dogs for example. No punishment had a real effect on him and only motivated him to become sneakier in his endeavors. Not much was known about his family life either, everyone who knew them claimed that his parents were kind and generous christian people. However, William seemed to hate his parents calling his mother a "whore" and his father a "pathetic excuse of a man" in his diaries which he wrote later in his life. The reason was possibly the many scoldings and punishments he recieved for his anti-social behaivor. Eventually his parents told him about Hell, where the souls of evil end up after their deaths. This seemed to make a huge impact on William as he has developed a fear of death and a hope for immortality.
These diaries also reveal that William had a habit of luring the pets of his classmates away to kill them slowly and painfully, most of these were done whenever he was insulted or made fun of.
At the age of 10, when William's dog took his toy (in hopes of playing with the boy) William chased after the dog. Once he caught up with the dog, William strangled the poor animal out of revenge and took back his toy. Later that night, the toy was possessed by the soul of the dog. William became fascinated with it and began to kill off the pets of the neighbouring families, making their souls possess various inanimate objects. The reason behind this was lter learned by William which was Remnant: a forbidden method used by ancient Indians making the souls of the innocent possess inanimate objects after their deaths. William wanted this for himself, so he could become immortal and continue with his crimes without fearing the punishment of Hell.
One of his ex-girlfriends from high school claimed: "He was so intelligent and charismatic. All the girls loved him and was the leader amongst the boys. I didn't see his true colors untill I began to date him." The same person claimed that William was quite the control freak in his relationships and the only time he was truly satisfied with anything was when he managed to assert his dominance on the women he dated or had sexual relationships with. Such misogynistic behaivor was present in his late marriage as well. Some rumours claim that William had a hobby of sneaking into the girls dressing room and forcing his male classmates to harass them, though many of his other classmates dispute these claims.
Military service during WWII[]
He was almost expelled from the school at the age of 15, however this was never finished as the principal and many of the teachers were enlisted for the army in 1941 when the United States joined World War II after Pearl Harbor. He never really managed to finish school however as in 1943, he too was enlisted to join the fight. During this time period he met his future best friend and business-partner Henry Emily. In an interview in 2000, their first meeting was described by Henry as most surpirsing and quite amusing: "It was the July of 1943 when I first met William in the military camp. I went to my bed in my barrack to rest after the hard training, then I noticed a young man like myself hiding under my bed putting his finder before his mouth, signing for me to keep quiet. Then a sergeant stormed in and demanded me to tell him where William Afton is. I told the sergeant that I didn't know where he is, so the sergeant left. After a few minutes, the man came out of hiding and introduced himself as William Afton. I asked him why the sergeant was so pissed at him, then William told me that he had an affair with the sergeant's daughter." The two became good friends during the war, despite not meeting much as the two were sent intp different military operations. Military reports from World War II had evidence that William fought not only in D-Day but also in Berlin during 1945. Apparently he liked to use stealthy and surprise attacks on the enemy soldiers he killed and took pleasure whenever he killed Nazis.
Afton Robotics and Fredbear's Family Diner[]
According to Henry, the war has changed William's personality drastically: "He was quite the funny and charismatic fella before the war, however after the war he was different... He became more composed, more serious and calculating in his approach torwards many things. He rarely made any jokes ever again." In 1951, William finished his studies in robotics and engineering along with Henry. Somewhere in Colorado, they co-founded their first business, Afton Robotics, where they engineered and built computers and toy robots at sometime. By the time of early 1960, their business wasn't quite successful though and were suffering financially, thus William came up with a plan to move their business into Utah for better luck.
In Utah, they stopped at Fredbear's Family Diner to eat some pizza and the two men were amazed by the entertaining musical preformance of the golden bear mascot, Fredbear. William noted that the food was in high quality, the guests had a good time, the prices too proved to be reasonable, however service was quite slow and later they learned that due to financial problems the place was supposed to be closed. William saw potential in the business and asked one of the employees to meet the owner of the place, much to Henry's reluctance. Later that day, William was quite surprised to learn that the whole resturant was operated by 4 people and the owner, Freddie "Freddy" Erickson was one of them. He was also the man inside the Fredbear suit. The two engineers were amazed by the sheer dedication and modesty of Freddie and wished to help him for different reasons. William saw potential in the resturant as a business, while Henry wished to help Freddie. William proposed his idea to make a Fredbear animatronic so that Freddie could focus on the business department. Freddie agreed although he was skeptical of William's idea. By the June of 1960, William and Henry after sheer hard work (though mostly from Henry's part) dedication and cooperation managed to create the very first springlock animatronic, Fredbear. It's design kept most traits of the original suit worn by Freddie, but a purple vest with white stars, a purple bow tie and hat was put onto the animatronic, this design choice was made by William to make the animatronic look cooler and stylish.
The endoskeleton within animatronic needed batteries to reload, so sometimes it required someone to put on the suit and preform for the guests in case the endoskeleton needed to recharge.
Freddie liked the animatronic and it preformed very well during shows. The animatronic was a success, everyone in Utah eventually began to visit the resturant and the business was blooming. Afton Robotics and Fredbear's Family Diner partnered up and founded the company Fredbear Entertainment Inc. planning to build more resturants across the United States with more animatronics on the way. During this time, William came to know his future wife, Angelina Miller and began dating. In 1963, William was gifted with a golden rabbit animatronic of his own by Henry and Freddie by the name of Springbonnie who was made in a similar style of Fredbear, but without a purple hat. William sometimes put on the suit to preform using his personal impression of a british soldier he met during WWII. Suprisingly, William was good and charismatic with children which was witnessed by Angelina whom desired to marry the man wishing to have a family with William.
Learning about Remnant and Sister Location[]
Even to this point, William's obsession with immortality and remnant continued, he had an idea of using the future Pizzeria Resturants to lure in children whom he could kill and experiment on their souls. However, William realized that he couldn't do everything on his own so he found like-minded individuals at Afton Robotics who planned to follow his instructions. When he found his associates, he lied to them about the fact that they were doing this for scientific advancement, however in reality, William planned to kill them off in case he succeeds.
Their first step was to establish a sister resturant of Fredbear's Family Diner by the name of Fredbear's Funtime Pizza World. For this place, William and his collegues designed the Funtime Animatronics: Funtime Freddy, Funtime Foxy, Funtime Chica, Music Man and others. They had highly upgraded models and detailed endoskeletons, with rosy cheeks of a red and purple and a palette of colors among which white, pink and purple protrude. Additionally, they feature small spaces in their bodies that split parts of their suits into plates, allowing them to swivel open (especially the faces) with the purpose of making them easier to take apart for repairs. They also seemed to have advanced AI (at least advanced for the time). The board of Fredbear Entertainment was very fond of the idea, however they didn't understand the purpose of them having large boxes in their chests, but William explained that the AI within the animatronics would be able to detect danger for children and hold them inside untill the threat was neutralized. In reality, the last function's true purpose was to capture children so they could be taken to Afton and his minions to be killed for experimentation. Fredbear's Funtime Pizza World was opened in 1964.
After the first few weeks, many lost children were kidnapped by the Funtime Animatronics. They were killed by William and his collegues whom began their experiments with remnant by forcing the souls of the murdered children to possess the Funtime Animatronics.
The Afton Family[]
In 1964, William married Angelina and by 1965, they had their very first child, a girl whom they named Elizabeth Afton. Angelina was incredibly happy and asked William wanted to honor Elizabeth in some way, so he created two new Funtime Animatronics: Ballora, modeled after Angelina who used to be a Ballet-dancer and Circus Baby who was created in the honor of Elizabeth. However, unbeknownst to Angelina, both of these animatronics were designed specifically to lure and kidnap children for William's sinister experiments. William in his secret diary, claimed to plan his own children for his experiments later on and abandon his wife once he achieved immortality.
Circus Baby became the favorite of the children at the new restaurant, so Fredbear Entertainment Inc decided to rename the new restaurant as Circus Baby's Pizza World in order to lure more guests. This was good for William as it meant that more children could be kidnapped, killed and have their souls be experimented upon.
In 1969, William and Angelina had two twin sons, Michael and Norman. Although they resembled each-other, they were nothing alike in terms of personality. While Michael was intelligent, impulsive and rebellious, Norman was obedient, indecisive and dull. William preferred Norman and Elizabeth by a landslide as he was sub-serviant to his controlling personality, however William deeply despised Michael in almost everyway claiming that he was not worth his time.
On the 14th of November in 1973, their youngest son, Evan was born. Evan was quite a timid and sensitive child who was often picked on by Michael.
Despite William posing as a regular proud father of four children and a husband to a ballet-dancer, the reality was vastly different as William was a controlling, oppressive, abusive husband to Angelina and a neglectful and terrible father to Norman, Joseph and Michael at the same time. The only child he really seemed to pay attention to was Elizabeth, whom he regularly took to his workplace and telling her that Circus Baby was made to honor her, however he warned him not to go too close to the animatronic.
Death of Elizabeth Afton[]
In 1974, the 9 year old Elizabeth was with her father at Circus Baby's Pizza World and pleaded to her father that she wants to get close to Circus Baby. William told her that he won't allow it before his assistant in his illegal activities, Joe called him on a phone that Funtime Freddy broke loose within the secret lab and attacked some of their collogues. William spoke to Joe about the matter. While William was distracted, Elizabeth sneaked to Circus Baby's private room and began to play with her. However, the animatronic malfunctioned and unleashed her claw onto the girl, killing her.
William ran to the scene and broke down crying at the loss of his daughter, which was only an act as he was infuriated by Elizabeth's disobedience. The restaurant was closed due to this accident and the animatronics were all shipped off to the Sister Location.
Elizabeth's death deeply shook Angelina to her core and was furious to learn that William refuses to accept responsibility for the accident. She demanded a divorce and that the children will be with her. William wanted a divorce too, however he didn't want to lose Norman and Joseph who he could use in the future. The couple entered divorce proceedings and it seemed that Angeline will win, however, William hired a private investigator to spy after Angelina and a friend of her, Jack. The investigator shot a photo of the two kissing (the truth was that the two were in love, however Angelina was afraid to make a serious move due to her fear of William), which was used as evidence against her in court so William won and the kids remained with him.
This broke Angeline completely as everyone around her called her an unfaithful woman for cheating on a kind man like William, which eventually drove her to commit suicide. Although, in public, William acted as if felt sorry for her death, in reality he smiled to himself about it. These events made William torture Ballora numerous times during the experiments. During these experiments, Elizabeth managed to successfully possess Circus Baby completely and tried to ask her father on why he designed Baby to be a killing machine, to which William only replied that was for the good of scientific experimentation, however Elizabeth didn't want to take any part of it, so William began to torture her too out of punishment. He also did the same for Ballora out of his pure hatred towards his deceased ex-wife.
The Bite of '83[]
Since Circus Baby's Pizza World was closed permanently, William feared that his experiments would end as he no longer had the method of kidnapping and killing children. However, he came up with a new plan to introduce new animatronics at the restaurant who shall serve to distract the masses while he disguises himself in a Springbonnie suit to lure children away in order to kill them later. Eventually, William with the aid of Henry managed to create 4 new animatronics: Chica the Chicken, Bonnie the Bunny, Foxy the Pirate Fox and Freddy Fazbear who was promoted as Fredbear's younger brother to the kids.
During this time, William completely ignored his children at home, which enabled Michael to regularly bully Joseph while Norman was at special school. On one Saturday, William took his sons to the restaurant when the 4 new animatronics were introduced to the public. While the 4 new animatronics entertained the children, William put on his Springbonnie suit and noticed a lone girl named Cassidy from the crowd who was crying on her own. William approached her, posing as the friendly Springbonnie and lured her into the saferoom promising her candy and pizza. Once they entered the room, William pulled out a knife and mercilessly slit her throat, killing her, however this deed was witnessed by Evan (who was trapped by Michael in the room as part of a prank). Eventually, William's right hand man, Joe came in and helped him put the corpse of the child inside the Fredbear animatronic. Joe was worried that the stench of the corpse might be noticed, however Afton assured him that these suits are able to block down even the worst of smells which could make a human puke. After leaving and Evan sneaking out of the room, William went to the changing room to get rid of the suit which was noticed by Evan. This event deeply traumatized the boy. Later that the night they tried to experiment, but to no avail as the animatronic didn't show signs of possession (however, Cassidy was scared to show any signs of life as he was too scared of Afton at the time). After the two men left, the possessed Fredbear animatronic began to cry and violently trash inside the restaurant, however this was also noticed by Evan who snuck out from his home in the middle of the night.
Throughout the year, Evan was tormented by the nightmares caused by the traumatic experiences. This got so bad, that he had developed a deep sense of fear of the restaurant which was noticed by Michael. Michael began to put on a Foxy mask to terrorize his brother, to which their father didn't even care about.
On the 14 of November, Evan's 10th birthday he was celebrated at Fredbear's Family Diner on William's wishes, despite Evan's obvious fear of the place. Evan was bullied by his brother's friends, along with Michael who all wore the masks of the animatronics. They picked him up and threw him into the jaw of Fredbear, who's jaw malfunctioned and bit down on Evan's frontal lobe critically injuring him, sending him to a hospital where Evan suffering from horrifying and nightmarish hallucinations, died in the hospital. This incident has become known as The Bite of '83, which lead to the Fredbear animatronic being completely cancelled and Springbonnie being reduced to only act as waiter-type of animatronic with Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy becoming the main attractions. The restaurant and company has been renamed into Freddy Fazbear's Family Diner and Farbear Entertainment Inc to avoid association with the incident altogether.
William was deeply affected by the loss of his youngest and most promising child, however instead of blaming himself for being a neglectful and arrogant father, he began to blame Michael for killing Evan. Michael was deeply traumatized by the event as well, showing genuine remorse for his actions and ended his friendship with the kids who encouraged his toxic behavior, however he was forever alone in school with no friends and at home he was regularly abused by William and sometimes his twin-brother, Norman as well (due to William's instructions). Although the abuse deeply satisfied William, he became obsessed with the very concept of killing Michael.
The 5 Missing Children[]
After becoming fully obsessed with the very concept of killing Michael, William was unable to concentrate on his work which displeased his supervisors from Fazbear Entertainment and at the same time his associates in his experiments were questioning his capibility as their boss. William needed something to let out his psychotic urges, starting with kidnapping pets of his neighbours and killing them, but they weren't enough, then he made a conclusion: pick out one child at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza who reminds him of Michael, lure them away while being dressed in a Springbonnie suit and kill them to later use their souls for experiments. This lead to the "5 Missing Children" tragedy across 1984 and 1985.
The first victim was Susie Mitchells, a 6 year old girl who was lured away by William to the storage room claiming to find her lost dog (whom William actually killed earlier) and killed her using a slasher knife. Her disappearance was reported on the 6th of February on 1984. She was stuffed inside Chica.
The second victim was her brother, Jeremy Mitchells, a 13 year old boy who was looking for her sister inside the Pizzeria only to be caught and killed by Afton on the 1st of April, 1984. His murder was part of a twisted April Fools joke from Afton's part. He was stuffed inside Bonnie.
The third victim was Fritz Simmons at the age of 9, he was killed on the 14th of February, 1984. He was stuffed inside the Foxy animatronic as Michael wore a Foxy mask when Evan died on the same day two years earlier. Afton hated Foxy with a burning passion for this.
The fourth victim was Gabriel Peterson at the age of 15, he was killed on the 11th of December,1984. He was stuffed inside the Freddy Fazbear animatronic.
The fifth victim was the daughter of Henry Emily and his son, Michael's crush, Charlotte Emily on the 14th of February, 1985 on Valentine's Day. On that day, William was enraged to learn that Michael was having a date with Charlotte on that day, he also got into numerous ugly arguments with Henry as William expressed complete apathy towards the missing children which made Henry angry (although Henry didn't suspect anything). During one such argument, William argued that "nobody gave a fuck when Evan or Elizabeth died" to which Henry was infuriated with him for putting his own misery over the tragedies that the parents of the missing children have to endure, calling him a narcissist and an asshole. This made William angry while driving to one of the other Fazbear's Pizzaria resturants and saw Charlotte being closed out by the other teenagers during the heavy rain. This gave William an idea to kill Charlotte not only to spite Michael but to make Henry understand how it truly feels to lose a child. William got out of his car and kidnapped the girl, taking her to a remote location where he strangled her to death. After the deed, William quickly went home before anyone saw him. Once he got home, William received a phone call from Henry in which Henry apologized for what he said to William. After the call, William began to laugh psychotically at the situation.
Soon, Charlotte's disappearance was reported to the police and her dead body was found by the Security Puppet 5 weeks after the event.
Aftermath of the Incident[]
"Hello! Whoever finds this recording, must surely know about who I am, but in case you don't... My name is William Joseph Afton. Co-founder and owner of Fazbear's Entertainment and founder of Afton Robotics. Now, surely you must know about about the recent happenings at Freddie Fazbear's Pizza and the '5 missing children', even though one of them has been already found dead. You know the 2 siblings, 2 others and the daughter of Henry Emily, another co-founder of Fazbear's (although there many more whom the police have no knowledge of). I have been recently questioned about whether I did it or not, due to being one of the primary suspects, but since they didn't find any evidence they could use against me, I was free to go. *slight chuckle* Those f*cking idiots... I did it. It was me. All of them. I killed those bastards and I'd do it again too! *psychotic laugh* I can't believe how easy this was! I'm a fucking genius! Now whomever must be listening to this might think that I did this after the betrayal of my wife, the deaths of my daughter and youngest son or I was suffering from PTSD thanks to World War II and some of them might be crying, feeling sorry for me... Well, I have to be honest... None of those events had any real effect on me. I always took pleasure in hurting and killing things, starting with pets! However, I never realized how much more fun this is! *laughs* All those squirming, tears and their fear before I delivered the killing blow, it was all gratifying. It felt amazing, as their muffled screams of pain tried to escape their mouths as I was covering their faces. However, my only regret is that I never managed to kill the one kid that one piece of shit child who was always a pain in my ass... My own fucking son... Michael. Oh, how satisfying it was to watch him in tears whenever I beat the crap out of him, but how much more satisfying it would've been if I could just kill him. But the only problem with that is I would've been caught... Oh well, at least killing his bitch girlfriend, Charlotte was enough I suppose. Now, that you know all this, I must let you know that I check this spot every single day where I put this cassette tape so I can even spot the slightest of difference... So you better put it back, Michael... As neatly as you can or will end up like Charlie and the others. *laughs*" - William in his confession tape.
After these events, all Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria restaurants were investigated by the police which gave William massive stress due to his fear of being caught and being jailed for life as punishment for his many crimes. One detective, James Clackson was incredibly suspicious of William and was hell-bent on arresting him, however due to the lack of evidence, William was not arrested. After this relief, William used a voice recorder to gloat about his deeds while also threatening Michael in the recording in case the boy finds the tape. Later, William returned with his illegal associates and experimented with the souls of the murdered children who possessed the animatronics in which their bodies were stuffed inside, however Charlotte while not being stuffed into animatronic, she possessed the Puppet. William was perfectly aware that the souls were suffering inside the suits, but William rather took amusement out of it. After that, during each day, William mocked all of the animatronics knowing full well that the souls of his victims were inside them. Later, William and his cronies used unsuspecting night guards dressed in purple to be killed by the vengeful animatronics at each night (as the souls only remember the color of William's suit). William had installed secret cameras within the restaurant so he could observe these events during nighttime for his sick and twisted amusement. The bodies were later chopped up and used as a "secret ingredient" for Hamburgers and Meat Pizza, and their status were lied about by William to the family members.
Eventually, the animatronics began to act strange due to the children's souls possessing them becoming overportective of the children during daytime and almost antagonistic torwards the employees of the resturants. It has also been noted that while the animatronics were checked for any malfunctions, the engineers heard voices of crying children, but no children were found which made many seek psychiatric help or just straight up quit their jobs.
Jeremy Fitzgerald's Five Nights at Freddy's[]
On 8th of August, 1985, a 27-year-old man by the name of Jeremy "Fitz" Fitzgerald was hired as a nighttime security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. William welcomed him to his office and during the interview he hired the name without hesitation. William had the Fitz trapped inside the resturant that night while he used his secret cameras to watch as the animatronics hunt down the man, mistaking Fitz for William and his associates. However, unlike the previous guards, Fitz was lucky and managed to survive the entire night.
On the 9th of August, Fitz didn't say a word to anyone about what happened despite William noticing his traumatised look and trying ask him what happened. However, the young man remained silent. Later that night, William once again observed the events taking place, but Fitz survived even this night, which amused William.
After the 3rd night, on th 11th of August did Fitz came to William with a question about whether the animatronics have some sort of nighttime security function, to which William honestly replied that they didn't. Fitz then proceeded to tell William about what happened on the previous nights. William then laughed it off, then pretended as if Fitz was one of those employees who heard some strange noises from the animatronics before quittin their jobs. Fitz tried to tell William that he wasn't just hearing things and that the animatronics were trying to kill him for something he didn't even do. William then told Fitz to drink some coffee before the job and he won't be seeing or hearing things. Fitz then proceeded to tell Henry who was just wierded out by the story. Later that night, the animatronics tried to kill Fitz again, but he survived once again.
Things happened differently during night of the 12th of August, as the animatronics, Bonnie and Foxy to be more precise, managed to outsmart Fitz and caught him inside the room. They took him before Golden Freddy (aka the possessed Fredbear), Freddy Fazbear and Chica who opened the parts and storage room to be stuffed inside one of the old and unused prototype Freddy suits to be killed despite the Puppet's protests as she was the only one who recognized that Fitz was not their killer or anyone associated with him in his crimes. Later, William went to the room to use Fitz's remains as the secret ingredient to the food in the resturant.
Aftermath of the Incidents[]
Later, William had attended a board meeting at the headquarters of Fazbear Entertainment with the board of directors, including Henry. During the meeting, they had discussed the case of the missing children and due to William becoming one of the primary suspects during the investigations and fact that others have noticed his detoriating mental state, the board decided to fire William and remove his name from the entire legacy of Fazbear Entertainment. William furiously criticized the directors, claiming that if it weren't for him Fazbear Entertainment wouldn't exist and that he sacrificed too much to just be fired from the very business he created, to which Freddie Erickson corrected him that his mascot of Fredbear was the reason the whole place existed and due to Henry's technological genius as well. William tried to ask Henry to stand up for him, however Henry revealed that he was concerned for William's mental health and that working in the same places which were partially responsible for the deaths of two of his children, he believed that William should be let go.
With this William's income was lost and despite being already a wealhy man, he became too greedy to pay his associates in his experiments who stopped working for him. However, these people were too cowardly to report William to the police and were afraid to William killing them himself. William's only source of joy was watching the series of unsuspecting night guards getting killed the animatronics night after night and disposing of the bodies with the help of Norman.
During this time, when William and Norman weren't home, Michael found the recorded message in which William confessed to his crimes and due to his fear of his father, he escaped and left the city behind to avoid his father's wrath. When William found that Michael escaped and that the recording has been listened to, William broke out in malicious laughter.

William seems to be suffering from monomania (due to his obsession with the color purple, the animatronics and bunny costumes), histrionic personality disorder, bipolar disorder, god complex, narcissistic personality disorder, psychopathic personality disorder. Despite his obvious mental illnesses, William seems to be perfectly aware of that fact that his actions are morally and legally bad, but he still choses to do them because he enjoys it.
