~ William Afton after finishing up his first round of "The Remnant Trials".
William Afton, otherwise known as Springtrap, is the overarching antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's web series The Interviewed and the main protagonist of Springtrap Audio Series made by the actor which is confirmed to be canon
He is a psychotic serial killer who, after a freak accident that ended in the death of his daughter Elizabeth, became obsessed with trying to bring her back, initiating what has been dubbed "The Remnant Trials" that, after they failed to bring Elizabeth back with her memories, he started to claim more victims in order to perfect the process.
William has, as one would expect from any version of the character, a very depraved personality and has shown to be incredibly unhinged. With him often laughing manically, most notably when addressing his victims. Beyond that though, he is incredibly desperate to bring his daughter Elizabeth back, to the point where he was willing to kill countless children in order to do it.
Appearance[]
As a human, William's appearance is mostly obscured, making it hard to make out any notable attributes, however, from what little is seen of him, he appeared to be a relatively normal looking man with brown hair and green eyes.
After becoming Springtrap, his appearance now consists of a rotting corpse inside of a decaying bunny suit that has withered to be point of going grown, having several holes and generally having a beat down appearance.
Biography[]
Prologue[]
Prior to the events of the story, William's daughter Elizabeth,
having refused to head her father's word, wound up getting too close to the Circus Baby animatronic that he had made, and wound up being scooped by it and then killed.
William, becoming grief stricken by this, began making it his life's purpose to try and bring her back, leading to the Remnant Trials.
The Remnant Trials[]
William killing his wife for the remnant trials.
Coming up with the idea of injecting remnant into animatronic bodies and seeing if they could remember. William claimed several victims, two unnamed children, as while as his wife, and extracting the remnant from their bodies. He injects said remnant into Funtime Foxy, Ballora, and Funtime Freddy, injecting them all with different amounts of remnant in order to see the effects.
The first animatronic he tried this on was Funtime Foxy, injecting them with a small amount of remnant. When Funtime Foxy woke up, they did not remember their name, nor do they remember much about themselves. However, they do remember William killing them, and shows open spite towards such, this leads to William getting annoyed and shocking them, causing them to go quiet.
The second subject he tried, was Ballora, who after he killed his wife for the sake of extracting her remnant, injected it into her, doing a higher dose than he did Funtime Foxy. This lead to Ballora remembering most things about herself, however she did not want to tell Afton about any of it, leading to him shocking her.
The third subject he tried was Funtime Freddy. Having observed that the spirits remembered more about themselves the more remnant was injected into the animatronics, so with Funtime Freddy, he only tried a small dose, however this would end up putting the robot in question into a sort of accomatosed state.
For his last subject, he injected the remnant of his daughter Elizabeth into the Circus Baby animatronic, however, when she came to life, she did not remember who she previously was, this caused Afton to become more and more desperate before eventually concluding the trials.
After having failed to make Elizabeth remember her past, William, not wanting to give up, decides that he simply needs to do more trials, as well as get more subjects, this is what would lead to him going on a mass killing spree and slaughtering countless children, leading to the events of the main series.
Becoming Springtrap[]
Having continued the Remnant Trials after his previous failures, William wound wind up claiming the lives of countless victims, with the only documented incidents being the "Missing Children Incident" where he murdered five kids by luring them into the backroom of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria using a Spring Bonnie costume before killing them off.
Eventually, karma would catch up to him, and after the missing children cornered him within the safe room, he attempted to put on the Spring Bonnie suit to scare them off, but after a single drop of water made contact with the suit, it lead to all of the springlocks snapping shut, crushing Afton to "death".
Following this incident, the safe room would be be sealed off and the five missing children would disappear, leaving Afton in agony. William was far from dead however, as despite everything, he managed to "survive", becoming a rotting corpose inside of the suit, and the Spring Bonnie suit itself becoming more damaged. He would spend the next thirty years locked within the Safe Room, slowly but surely going more and more insane.
Eventually, G.E.M.S would locate him and, after Afton fought off and killed several men, was eventually captured and brought to the G.E.M.S headquarters where he, along with several other animatronics were brought in for questioning.
An interview with Springtrap/Afton[]
After being brought in for questioning, Afton was asked a series of questions, most prominently when he was asked if he had killed the missing children, William gleefully admits to such, calling them "bastards" and even going as far as to say he'd do it again too.
Eventually, after a few more questions, William reveals that sometimes the suit still goes off by itself, and once that is proven, he then proceeds to attack the interviewer the intent to kill him.
However, when he tries, the interviewer in question manages to fight back against him, revealing the entire time, he had actually been Ennard wearing a skinsuit, at which point he ambushes him. Now surrounded by several of his victims who inhabitated animatronic bodes, William says that he remembers all of them, Ennard responds by asking how he could possibly remember all of them as there had been so many, before preparing to kill them off.
An interview with Foxy[]
Just when it had seemed like his journey was over, William managed to escape through seemingly lighting a match, causing a fire, and running away. It as as he flees through a forest that he is knocked down by Nightmare Chica and Nightmare Bonnie, who plan to finish him off. However, after G.E.M.S comes in, saying that they were on their side, they halted, for only a moment.
It is then that Ennard, who was using one of the soldiers bodies as a skinsuit, proceeds to shoot down the helicopter that the employees were flying on and causing it to crash and knocking Afton out in the process.
When William reawakens, he finds himself chained to a chair being stared down by Lefty along with her allies, at which point she makes it clear that her intention is to kill him, but right before she is able to do that, she is stopped by Cassidy, who goes onto state how death was too good for Afton.
After Cassidy gets in between the two, as well as the ghostly versions of Freddy, Foxy and Mangle appearing alongside her that, after a brief back and fourth as well as G.E.M.S entering the fray, that Cassidy teleports herself, Afton, and the phantoms away.
An interview with Cassidy[]
The vision of Evan's death that Cassidy tormented William with.
Cassidy, now having William all to herself, having teleported him to the house seen in Five Nights at Freddy's 4, begins tormenting him with his past mistakes, reminding him of when he killed his wife, how his own creations got Elizabeth killed, as well as his youngest son Evan Afton, who was killed by the Fredbear animatronic clamping down onto his head.
Slowly but surely being driven more mad by it, Afton lashes out at Cassidy, saying that he would kill her just like he did the rest of the children, Cassidy responds by using what seem to be her abilities of telepathy to hold Afton up by the throat, strangling him, and boasting about how nothing could match her power.
Ironically however, she is stopped, by none other than G.E.M.S, who stick a device onto the back of her head, causing her to completely lose control of herself, after doing this, G.E.M.S, more specifically the Major capture him, through him into the back of one of their trucks and drive him inside of one of their facilities for experiments.
An Interview with Ennard: Again[]
Having been taken back and imprisoned in one of the G.E.M.S facilities alongside the "Good Bloke", the two of them share a brief conversation where William why exactly the latter even bothers to help them. Calling them "annoying children playing dress up" and pointing out how they're only using him to get to William himself. When "Good Bloke" rhetorically asks if all children are like them, William responds by saying that he had three kids of his own (referring to Evan, Elizabeth, and Michael).
When the "Good Bloke" asks him what they think of all that William has "accomplished" over the years, he bluntly responds by saying that they were all dead. "Good Bloke" apologizes to him for his loss, but William brushes it off, stating that he's moved on and accepted that he'll never see them again, and that his victims also need to do the same.
Continuing to lament about how all the missing children are "just stubborn brats" who've dragged the "Good Bloke" into their mess and that he'll end up just like them if he's not careful, to which the "Good Bloke" retorts by pointing out that most of this is William's fault to begin with. William responds by saying that whatever the kids have told him about how killing him will restore the moral balance is complete bogus, saying that if there was one thing that being dead has taught him, is that life wasn't fair, to which "Good Bloke" snarkily asking him if he's a philosopher, obviously meant as a jab more than it is a genuine question.
Their conversation is cut off by the alarm in the facility going off, revealing none other than the Major in his bunny mecha. The man looks to the both of them, calling William "The Oracle", to which the man in question responds by flipping him the bird, and then to the "Good Bloke" who he labels as "The Traitor". "Good Bloke" asks qhat exactly he is doing, to which the Major informs him that he is here to talk to William. William responds to this by sarcastically saying "Oh goody, more chit-chat", making his "excitement" towards this known. The Major responds by vaguely stating that this is something that William would want to hear. Ending off the first half of the episode.
