“ | Why did I kill? Fear. Fear that I will embrace the cold silence of death once again, fear that you and Elizabeth will soon forget me, and fear that the afterlife wouldn't be what it's cracked up to be. I'm not afraid to admit this, Mike. That's why I killed them. | „ |

~ Springtrap to Golden Freddy before escaping. |
William Afton is the main antagonist of The Nights. He is a serial killer and former co-owner of Fazbear Entertainment. In 1984, he killed the missing kids and stuffed them into the five animatronics. Currently, he is a influencer for Fazbear Entertainment via. his son, Micheal before his death. He is the archenemy of both Puppet and Golden Freddy.
He doesn't currently have a voice actor.
Roles[]
William is the overarching antagonist of the Intro arc, the Afton Kids arc and the Raising Hell! arc and the main antagonist of the Flashbacks. the Vengeance, and the Rock On arcs. He will reappear as the deuteratagonist of the Ultimate Night arc.
Personality[]
William is shown to be a very psychotic individual. He is a paranoid man who seeks to prevent members of his family from dying. He is also very manipulative, as shown with the Fazbear Frights nightguard. He is also a hypocrite, criticizing Henry for not caring for his daughter, yet William failed that multiple times.
William is, more or less, a nihilist. He views almost everything as pointless, aside from himself and his family, and even then, he tends to mistreat both in varied ways.
Despite this, William is not pure evil, as he does care for his family (albeit in a twisted way). Plus, he does have a few comedic moments, such as his tendency to reference sitcoms randomly.
History[]
Origins[]
While talking with Michael, William reveals that he was an immigrant from England and was born as William Miller, but was changed to Afton after his mom married a zookeeper name Zachary Afton. William also implies that he had a tragic moment as a kid that nearly killed him, causing him to develop a fear of death. In adulthood, he and his friend, Henry Emily, co-created Fazbear Entertainment and created a series of animatronic based restaurants. He also fathered three kids.
In 1983, one of his kids, Evan, was killed in an animatronic accident with an animatronic that was built by Henry. This reminded William of a moment from his childhood and sparked a hatred for Henry Emily. a year later, he discovered that he had cancer and was expected to die in a few months. This once again sparked him to remember a moment from his childhood and caused him to drunkingly attack and kill Charlie (Henry's daughter) one night. In doing so, he found a substance called remnant that he learned from an old book from his childhood could cure his cancer.
After learning this, Afton killed five more kids for their remnant before stuffing them in animatronics (which their ghosts would soon possess) and turning his sights on immortalizing his two remaining kids, Michael and Elizabeth. For Elizabeth, William learned that if a person goes through enough pain before death, they can possess a human-like object. Thus, he designed a flawed animatronic called Circus Baby, which killed Elizabeth. William grew depressed over the fact he indirectly killed his daughter and proceeded to drink excessively.
Intro[]
William is seen on pictures around the building while the Missing Kids speak of him.
Flashback[]
William is seen through the Missing Kids' flashbacks where he kills them. For Chica, he lies that he knows where her dog is, something Chica still thinks about. Foxy explains how he captured him while he was playing in Pirates Cove.
Vengeance[]
Golden Freddy, mad that they still haven't gotten revenge on William, goes out in search of him with Bonnie and Freddy, with the others looking fir them. The trio find him at a newer location, discussing new building plans with someone on the phone. William immediately finds them and traps them in a safe room. The trio break out and attempt to kill him, but are stopped by a decaying Michael. Michael confronts William, as it was his fault that Michael was decaying, but William manages to convince him that everything was fine and that he was sorry.
William then proceeds to ask Michael about Circus Baby (the animatronic that Elizabeth possesses) and Michael responds with vague answers. Golden Freddy attempts to attack the two of them, but William and Michael manage to get the upper hand. The other animatronics arrive and save the trio before William attempts to escape. Golden Freddy chases him, causing him to try and hide in a old Spring-Bonnie suit. Unfortunately, the leaky ceiling causes the springlocks to snap and kill William. Everyone except Golden Freddy is scared by this.
Later, the animatronics realize that the suit William was in is gone and are suddenly attacked by William (who had possessed the suit due to the remnant he absorbed before he leaves the building. He then kills a nightguard to ensure no witnesses and hitches a ride with Michael while contemplating his next move.
Afton Kids[]
Springtrap has few appearances in the arc. He is seen at the Afton house where he welcomes his daughter back and after a while informs her of his rivalry with the Missing Kids. He is then seen after Circus Baby is defeated by the Missing Kids and convinces them to make a blood pact so that he won't be able to harm anyone until either he or the Missing Kids are dead. As he brings Baby back, he explains that she and Michael will assist in killing the Kids to break the pact.
Rock On[]
In a scheme to eliminate the Missing Kids, Springtrap has Michael purchase a location opened by Henry Emily to lure them in and kill them. This succeeds as the Missing Kids manage to disguise themselves as Rockstar animatronics and infiltrate the pizzeria. As Springtrap prepares how he will destroy them, Puppet is captured by a bear animatronic made by Henry and Molten Freddy also arrives to kill children. After hearing that they were in the pizzeria, Afton takes control of a second suit to hunt the kids. After the Puppet was trapped in the vents, the entire pizzeria shut down and the animatronics were trapped. Henry Emily then appeared in the intercoms and explained how he planned on ending the tragedies and atoning for his own sins, which he does by engulfing the pizzeria in fire. Michael and Elizabeth end up dying inside, but William is saved by Shadow Freddy (who is revealed to be his son, Evan) who agrees to help him destroy the animatronics in order to avenge Michael and Elizabeth. The arc ends with William being stored inside a facility by Fazbear Entertainment employees.
Raising Hell![]
After Nightmare, a demon from Hell, is sent by Golden Freddy to drag William to Hell, William is momentarily outsmarted. He and Nightmare fight, but Nightmare manages to get the upper-hand. However, just before Nightmare delivers the finishing blow, William reveals all of the Missing Kids' sins, thus angering Nightmare about their lies. His rage gives William time to hide, which angers Nightmare more.
In the end, Golden Freddy, after making a deal with Nightmare and leaving their friends behind, traps William in a hell in his sleep.
