~ William resolving to understand the study the Yellow Rabbit in his audio log. |
William Afton, also known as The Mascot Killer, is the overarching antagonist of The Unwithered Truth's Five Nights at Freddy's: ANNIVERSARY, a concept of what a hypothetical reboot of the first Five Nights at Freddy's game would look like if the story had been planned from the very beginning.
He is an associate of Fazbear Entertainment, the father of Michael Afton and The Crying Child, and a sadistic serial killer who murdered numerous innocent children at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza back in the 1980s. having been the main culprit of The Missing Children Incident, where he murdered five children one by one and hid their corpses in the restaurant's animatronic mascots, causing their souls to possess the robots and develop a thirst for revenge against William for taking their lives, ultimately resulting in them attacking any night guards they found in the restaurant after hours in a blind rage.
On 1993, Afton would unexpectedly encounter The Yellow Rabbit, an anomalous creature that was born as a result of the amount of agony accumulated from William's past crimes over the past decade. After a brief confrontation, Afton would manage to subdue the creature and subsequently capture it, but after coming to the conclusion that the creature might've let itself be captured, Afton would put all of his time to try to study the creature and try to understand its nature.
He was voiced by SolidSilv3r.
Appearance[]
William Afton physically appears as a light-skinned adult man with dark brown hair and blue eyes. When dressed up as Spring Bonnie, he wears the namesake robotic, green-eyed, golden-yellow rabbit suit equipped with a purple bowtie.
Personality[]
While William is only ever shown in brief scenes, his personality is very apparent and matches up well to his mainstream counterpart: William is a deeply evil, deceptive, callous and sadistic serial killer who enjoys inflicting pain on others for nebulous reasons only known to himself.
Above all else, William is highly charismatic and manipulative, able to flawlessly earn the trust of young children and convince them into following him with false promises and manipulation tactics. William's method of choosing his victims is frighteningly cruel, as he weaves his way into the situation his victims are as a way to start talking with them and earn their trust, whether it be through praising them, promising them something, helping them or pretending to take pity on them for their suffering. He is also shown to be sadistic and ruthless, having no qualms with letting Fritz bask in horror at his murders and taunting Cassidy with what his plans for her are before springlocking her.
While a cold-blooded killer at heart, William also retains an insatiable, obsessive curiosity to learn about the supernatural for the purpose of furthering his goals. Even when confronted by the Yellow Rabbit - a literal monster of his own making - he remains steadfast in containing the creature as opposed to killing it solely so he can learn about it.
Although the full relationship with his children is unknown, he appears to want to put his youngest son "back together", which might indicate genuine care. However, the fact that he chose to murder five children instead of just one to put him back together might indicate ulterior motives to his cause, likely tied to his fascination with supernatural forces.
He seems to be using his oldest son, Michael, as a pawn to do his own bidding, presumably as punishment for killing his own brother. He holds such contempt at him that he describes the mere prospect of lashing out at him as motivating.
Biography[]
Early Life and the Bite of '83[]
Not much is known about William Afton's early life, although what can be gleamed shows that at some point he fathered Michael Afton and an unnamed younger son. At some point, he began working at Fazbear Entertainment's signature restaurants; Fredbear's Family Diner and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, although it's unclear if he remains its co-founder like his mainstream counterpart.
On November 12th, 1983, tragedy struck the Afton family when William's youngest son was killed in a freak accident at his birthday party at Fredbear's Family Diner. After the teenage Michael and his friends shoved him in the mouth of the Fredbear springlock animatronic as a prank, the resulting pressure from the mascot's jaw caused it to bite down on the boy, killing him instantly. In the wake of the tragedy, Michael and his friends were arrested and were sent to await a hearing from the Utah Juvenile Court, with Michael potentially risking being charged as an adult.
At some point, either before or after William's youngest son's death, William abducted and likely killed a child outside one of Fazbear Entertainment's restaurants.
The Missing Children Incident[]
At an unknown point in time following his youngest son's death, William somehow discovered that his spirit had begun inhabiting the Fredbear suit, prompting curiosity from William as he sought to find a way to "put him back together". On June 26th, 1985, William dressed up in the Spring Bonnie springlock mascot costume and carried out his plan: He caught the attention of a boy named Gabriel performing for other kids, stating that he'd won a special Fazbear prize for his performance. Next, he took pity on a boy named Jeremy who was being bullied for having large ears, and related in-character due to the suit's rabbit ears. Next, he told a starving girl named Susie he could bring her to a place where she could have all the food she wanted. One by one, William lured each child to the pizzeria's "safe room" where he remorselessly murdered each one and stuffed their corpses in the Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Bunny and Chica the Chicken animatronic suits respectively. William's fourth victim, a boy with eyesight issues named Fritz, would get a blurry glance at the carnage William created as he promised him a suit for him as well before killing him.
William's last victim, an aggressive girl named Cassidy, was spotted by William beating up another kid. William ushered Cassidy into following him and showing her a place to hide, allowing her to hide in the Fredbear suit. William would speak to Cassidy, telling her not to move as he removed the mascot's head. William explained that his son was also in the suit and that it was Cassidy job to "put him back together", harnessing her anger to make her strong, before putting the Spring Bonnie head back on and telling her to move, causing her to get springlocked and bleed out.
Eventually, the CEO of Fazbear Entertainment would be arrested and convicted for the disappearances. It's unknown if William is the CEO or if he framed him.
Visited by a Demon[]
Ten years later on December 13th, 1993, William awoke to a knock at the door, expecting it to be his son, Michael. However, upon opening the door, he was greeted by a demonic creature resembling the Spring Bonnie suit, who attacked him. William managed to fend off the entity and subdued it, but quickly realised that the entity had most likely allowed William to capture it. Nevertheless, William kept it contained and made several startling realisations about the creature: Not only was it completely organic, but it seemed to have been created from William's actions during the Missing Children Incident as a sentient collection of agony generated from the massacre. Realising that he didn't understand the supernatural as well as he thought he did, William resolved to learn about the creature and make it the focus of his latest work.

“ | I was visited late last night. A knock on my office door. An unsteady, erratic burst of forceful raps which stirred me from my chair. A momentary flutter of hope that Michael had returned carried me to the door. The subsequent rage toward him to have disappeared without explanation spurred me to fling it open. And on the other side – a mirror. Or at least, that’s what I took it to be in that brief moment. It wasn’t until the creature unhinged its jaw of spiralling fangs that I knew I had come face to face with death. The confrontation was brief... and bloody... but I managed to subdue it. Against all odds, I thought, I have contained the beast. In the long intervening hours since... I have come to three realisations about this creature. The first upsetting conclusion I drew almost immediately upon surviving my encounter: Despite its violent posturing and its snapping, snarling protest – something in the pit of my stomach told me that this demon allowed itself to be captured. Its beady silver eyes contain a veiled wisdom reflective of my own. This observation led me to a second, even more disquieting theory which I grow more confident in by the minute: It seems that through my past unsavoury actions, I have – ironically – created (or more accurately) inspired life. This monster wears the face of my great work... but it is no machine. It is a living, breathing organism - its heart pumping with hatred... its flesh woven from pure agony. All my research and sacrificial experimentation these last ten years has been in a calculated effort to reach enlightenment. And yet, suddenly, it has borne new fruit – not intended by my design. Which granted me a third realisation: I do not understand as much about these forces as I thought I did. How long this creature has existed... for what reason it has waited until now to seek me out... why it has chosen me as its avatar... These are questions to which I can only gesture at answers. But I am determined to change that. I have resolved to make this demon the focus of my latest work. I must understand it. | „ |

Referring to William[]
“ | FIVE CONFIRMED VICTIMS OF FAZBEAR DISAPPEARANCES Published July 8th, 1985 On the night of June 26th, four children were reported missing to police - and another child was reported two days later having last been seen on that same fateful night. All of the children were visiting the popular fast food restaurant, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, and have not been seen since. Police conducted an investigation into the restaurant and found that security equipment had been tampered with - and was not operational during the time of the disappearances. Interviews conducted with patrons of the restaurant on that fateful day began to reveal corroborated reports of an employee dressed as a yellow rabbit, matching the description of a retired mascot suit kept in storage at the pizzeria. One child reported having seen the yellow rabbit leading a young girl away from the show area by the hand. Police have been unable to identify the culprit responsible for the abductions, but an inside source has reported that the suit allegedly used would require "intimate knowledge of proper handling techniques" only shared with employees of the company in years past. Hurricane police are working hard to identify the man behind the yellow rabbit disappearances. Though the children's whereabouts are yet to be discovered, they are presumed dead. After the company’s promise of safety following the multiple incidents that occurred at their establishments many years ago – locals are horrified to see the same tragic patterns repeat themselves. |

Trivia[]
- Due to William's role in Fazbear Entertainment being yet to be established, it's unclear if he was the CEO who was convicted for the Missing Children Incident or if he framed the CEO. Due to the nature of the charges, it's unlikely William was released eight years later in 1993, making it more likely that William framed the CEO for his actions.
- It's also heavily likely that the CEO is Henry Emily, the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment and William's business partner in the games.
- Unlike in the mainline games, William is fully aware of the Yellow Rabbit's existence and even desires to study it for his own personal agenda.
- It's possible William specifically chose Cassidy to springlock, knowing that her nature as an aggressive kid combined with the intense agony at being springlocked and killed in the Fredbear suit would enable her to communicate with the spirit of his youngest son who was bitten.
- As Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental exists in this continuity, it's likely William's daughter Elizabeth does as well, and that William owns the business.
