X!Gaster is an alternative version of W. D. Gaster and the main antagonist of the Undertale web series, Underverse. He serves as the overarching antagonist of season 1 and as the main antagonist of season 2, as well as the prequel series, XTale. He is the owner of the previously mentioned universe as well as the adoptive father of X!Frisk, X!Chara, Cross and X!Papyrus.
Biography[]
XTale[]
X!Gaster is a monster of an unknown origin, appearing at the same time as his universe, with two children accompanying him. He possesses a SOUL similar to that of a creator, which gives him the ability to manipulate matter itself. It is worth noting that the universe, and every creation residing in it, is directly connected to the SOUL. Its trait remains undisclosed. The power was given to him for the purpose of creating something unique and special for those children; yet after several unsuccessful attempts he loses motivation, deeming himself unqualified for such a feat, and thus deciding to destroy the SOUL. This, however, was averted by introduction to the Doodle Sphere, with thousands of different universes residing within it. Fortunately, the others' work inspired X!Gaster and he was motivated to create once again.
As a result, the first timeline comes into being. Though, after fulfilling his purpose, he felt as if the world created was not good enough: this led him to invent a button called 'OVERWRITE', which allows its user to modify creations, as well as remove them entirely. He undid all of his work and returned the brothers back to their initial forms, which upset them greatly. The invention was later presented to Ink, the guardian of the Multiverse that helped him out in the first place. During their discussion, X!Gaster briefly mentioned an experiment he planned for the future, and said that he wanted to explore the button's limits, comparing it to a game.
He recreated the world he had thrown away, placing the children into it for a second time, marking the beginning of a second timeline respectively. The "older" of the brothers expressed dissatisfaction at this, which was met with disdain and promptly dismissed. As time went, X!Gaster was still not content with his handiwork. Growing spiteful, he considered that the abundance of happiness must have been at fault. The solution he came up with was to kill people dearest to the brothers, simulating the phenomenon known as death. At first, their reactions excited him, but then made him question the morality of his actions; he quickly justified them by the necessity of loss in the name of progress, which became his motto.
He concluded that the world had nothing more to offer, and OVERWROTE it once more, leading to the start of the third timeline. In it, he ruminated on the topic of timelines, and that the existence of their variations indicates failure, which he admitted to be guilty of himself; however, unlike other owners, he has the power to dispose of them, believing that this acts as means of correcting his mistakes. The timeline was later used to experiment with features from other universes, copying and applying them to his own. And as always, dissatisfied with his work, he reverted it back to its initial state yet again. X!Chara insulted him, catching him off-guard, yet he brushed it off all the same.
In his entries of the fourth timeline he writes about his admiration for Ink, marveled at their strife for the lives of others as well as the ability to feel many things; while also wondering whether it would be difficult to be like him. Some time passed, until eventually X!Gaster planned to OVERWRITE one of the children to see if they could defy him when under his control. X!Frisk was puppeteered to commit genocide, with his own brother being a target; however, he was stopped by X!Muffet who got her hands on a fragment from X!Gaster's entries, purposefully left by his assistant that is responsible for their transcription. This allowed X!Chara to strike and RESET the timeline, which resulted in a different timeline.
Infuriated by this potential problem, he decides to ostracize them in the fifth timeline; yet his attempts fall flat as X!Chara still manages to instigate X!Undyne to rebel. He found out about X!Alphys, his assistant, betraying him, which led him to kill her. The disappearance attracted their attention, and upon arrival X!Gaster showed what he had done to the assistant, threatening X!Undyne with the same fate if she wouldn't give him the human. The encounter ended up in a fight, in which he took note of the sheer determination that X!Chara possessed. Wishing it for himself, he desperately tried to get his hands on the brother. He did so in the end, using the royal family along with X!Muffet that he collected from the previous timelines as weapons. Defeated, X!Undyne became yet another addition to X!Gaster's collection. As for X!Chara, he was forced to fight back the monstrosities until he got completely exhausted, just so that X!Gaster could see how long he would last. When that point was reached, one of the creatures brought the child to X!Gaster, allowing him to puncture both of their SOULs, using the spikes protruding from his hands to pump half of X!Chara's determination into his SOUL, whilst sharing his own trait with X!Chara in return. The timeline was OVERWRITTEN during this procedure, making it the sixth timeline and with X!Chara being the sixth in X!Gaster's collection.
Timeline 7/VII[]
Immediately after the last timeline, X!Gaster Tested the reset button but he found it to be extremely boring, he gave X!Chara nicknamed the experiment his abilites to kill of his brother who didn't bother to fight back or defend himself from his brother, and then X!Gaster though it was the perfect time to move on, and learned that a human soul can lose their trait based on the feelings and asks Alphys to add to her data for future studies.
Then he had tears coming down from his eye sockets but it was actually from X!Chara who felt sad over the lost of his brother and X!Gaster asked the young boy why he was crying he responded saying he wanted his brother back but Gaster refuses as he's irrelevant for his world, and instead he asked him if he wanted to created a new one together, but he refused and he states he dosen't want a different human and attempts to reset but X!Gaster Prevents him from doing it because he thinks he is just gonna not accept his offer just like in timeline 5, and not only that but his determination was completely gone permanently, and thought their is no point of him in their world.
Chara then thinks X!Gaster also wants him back too, and their souls weren't satisfied yet, then X!Gaster then lets him proceeds to do so, and become the vessel of his brother.
Timeline 8/VIII[]
It starts off with X!Gaster teaching X!Frisk to test out his new ability's to make his own creations using the overwrite button and then leaves him to do his task, while X!Gaster then leaves to visit a few universes.
After X!Gaster got back he seemed concerded about the X!Frisk or the X-Event new creation XMetatton, Frisk then explains what he's capable of doing, This made X!Gaster not sure of what to think and thought the creation was fine but in truth he disapproved of his creation and commands him to destroy him, this made X!Frisk Confused, when X!Frisk refused X!Gaster then did it himself and said "Evolution requirs sacrifice" then out of nowhere X!Chara gets control over his body and lets out a loud screech sound, then Metatton attempts to most likely kill X!Gaster.
But also gets damaged in the process of doing so and then X!Chara had control over him, then Alphys uses an Amalgamate version of undyne to use its spear to kill metatton, After that X!Gaster then orders then orders Alphys to clean up the mess Frisk's creation made
X!Gaster found the X-Event to be very interested in using its creativity, then X!Gaster had a view of the future from underverse 0.4.
Timeline 9/IX[]
X!Gaster feels scared for the very first time since there will be consequences for everything that he did to chara, frisk and his creations in the past, he was not done yet, then ink shows up and sees that X!Gaster feels tired, he then repsonds how much he had overdone the first phase of their game, Ink asked what is the name of their game again X!Gaster then answered the X-Event, ink thinks that he favourted that name, after a bit of sileince ink asks him what are we waiting for and asks him to possibly start the second phase, but X!Gaster then want to go with him since his only purpose was for creating and testing the things he made, and said the second phase depends on the X-Event including himself.
Ink then realized what he meant by expriment which was X!Frisk and X!Chara, X!Gaster gave up his soul vial to ink keep it him safe for him, due to knowing something will happen in the future, ink then calls the old man crazy for giving away his own vial, X!Gaster said that he can stand the other half of X!Chara's determination, and asks to let the children do what they do and asks ink to follow them, and asks him to be either a villain or a hero of the second phase until X!Gaster decides for the third phase of the game, this gets ink excitied.

After frisk and chara had walked to X!Gaster's home he asked where has the X-event has been Alphys then explains while they were walking they were checkng the data on the new recent timeline while they were walking back, Gaster then said a walk huh? and then frisk said everything went perfectly in the timeline, then X!Gaster then listens, then frisk says the data will not present any type of setbacks, out of nowhere papyrus shows up rideing the back of a greater dog from their universe trying to land the empact but destroyed one of the gates in the process papyrus then calls the dog a good dog, and gives frisk his heart locket back.
Then papyrus leaves to go get some duct tape, and then tells that frisk is grounded, when papyrus got back X!Gaster asked him to leave since the gates were already fixed by the time he got back but papyrus asks if still wants the duct tape, he then asks again for him to depart from his area and says what makes him think he is safe coming when he is unaware that he is dangerous and then papyrus then says he dosen't know if he's good or evil himself, this made X!Gaster shocked since he was right.
Papyrus asks if he wanted an pie that him and his brother cross/X!Sans made, then X!Gaster then responded with a no thanks, papyrus asks if the ever gets bored of sitting in one area, X!Gaster the says yes he dose get bored but he has to keep waiting for frisk and chara, this made him see his own world in a somewhat different way, papyrus questions who exactly is the person he is waiting for, X!Gaster takes that as a interseting question, but he hated it, X!Alphys then noted gaster that frisk escaped from his prison, X!Gaster says "excellet".
Papyrus then came back after hearing the secret that X!Chara gave to him about gaster, then X!Gaster says it is true, he then asks what's going to happen now, but X!Gaster has no idea of what's going to happen next, papyrus was confused he then answered what actually is about to happen, but X!Gaster spotted frisk watching from behind, and saying that everything was going well until he showed up an ruined it, he then lets him think his heart locket would change anything then lets him go ahead and do so.
after the speech papyrus made to X!Frisk, he then he hit the reset button, then a much younger verison of Alphys was curious if X!Gaster was awake, he then woke up and asks where are they and why have Alphys has gotten smaller in size. and says that they are in the underground, X!Gaster then saw a much younger version of cross or X!Sans and papyrus hiding away from them, and X!Gaster finally realized that he got what he wanted after the long wait, and thought it was good time to give it a name.
Timeline 10/X[]
X!Gaster brings X!Sans and X!Papyrus to introuduce themeseleves to X!Asriel and X!Frisk, he tells them to play nice and do not forget their manners, asgore says our sons looks so happy they're going to be good friends for sure X!Gaster responded saying "Indeed", X!Gaster then told X!Alphys to mind her manners after refusing to go play with the rest of the kids calling them stupid.
The next scene shows X!Gaster and toriel looking up at frisk who refuses to leave the tree branch, and in X!Gaster mind he thought the child was seeking attention, and told sans to use his magic, sans did as he was told, due to having a vision of the future this made him paniac and made sans stop using his telekinsis this made frisk fall down and break the branch, this made X!Gaster feel much better, this made gaster hurt after that
Six year after that. he found it to be difficult to have everything under control with just a half of a soul, but forgets about and says today is gonna be an important day, X!Gaster learned certain events that happens just like in the original undertale universe, he learned that the human child will procced to break the barrier sucessfully.
X!Gaster walks up to the X-Event aka X!Frisk and says "I have tolerated what you've done to my precious universe with your reset" and he hadn't forgotten any of the nonsense the expirment and his brother try to do while trying to get here, and he dosen't care if the expirment dosen't respond to him since he was in charge after all.
He now realizes putting fear and authority over Frisk hides the advantage it has over him, and the he can not also know that the other half of his soul was in the hands of ink, and wants him to keep distance from it. After the experiment broke the barrier, he thought he should of reduced the number of inhabitants in the first place.
Due to having X!Chara's determination in his soul, while X!Frisk was getting hurt he also got hurt when mind controlled humans were attacking X!Frisk, X!Gaster went to investigate and noticed they are trying to get themselves killed on purpose, XGaster then murdered all of the humans that were mind-controlled for the sake of him not dying along with the experiment.
X!Gaster returns to the experiment's household with the injured body of Undyne and told them to explain what happened, X!Gaster tells Asgore and Toriel to form a group of royal guards, XGaster tells the experiment he'll keep them alive as long as he wants, Cross pressures X!Gaster to let them be part of helping frisk. X!Gaster responds with a no since he was the one to cause frisk to have a broken arm, X!Gaster then saw a future verison of cross and X!Papyrus and decieds to enlist them as royal guards, X!Gaster asks Alpys is there any updates, she tells him that the expirment is roaming around the main universe.
X!Gaster then had a dream that included him being killed by his creation and the expirment, but he realized there was just one that wasn't present, X!Gaster asked Alphys what was the guards condition that were currently escorting the expirment, she infos that Cross has been overwritted by only a small amount but the others were completely fine.
This Made him feel more concered and supicious about the expirment, and believes his supiciouns were correct, X!Gaster realized that something was off about cross, X!Gaster Examines his au's current status, he realized that the creations bhevioaur were acceptable and apporpiate, but there is one who is a little off which was cross, he decides to react to his future interactions with the expirment.
X!Gaster who is one of the spectators of the huge crowd spying on the expirment and cross, the expirment controls Cross in an attempt to kill themselves, X!Gaster noticed this and interfered and manged to prevent the incident from happening by blocking the gaster blaster attack, He realizes that he can't fight back from the expirments expectations.
Gaster decides to stop being nice and activates the reset button to reverse time back to the same time where the expirment tried to get themselves killed, However this made X!Gaster only melt a little from doing this, Presumbaly after countless rests this caused his melting process to worsen, Alphys trys to calm him down and advices him to take a break.
However, Out of frustation he yelled at her and commanded her to continue taking her notes, X!Gaster inteferes in yet another involment between cross and the expirment, X!Gaster impales the expirment using one of his attacks, and uses the reset button again, before he even managed to use it X!Chara realized that the determination is effecting.
X!Gaster was frustrated since he refused to create a new timeline since he thought this was his perfect universe, After the Expirment managed to make X!Gaster's creations remeber the events of the previous timelines, and worried X!Alphys suggested that they make their escape, X!Gaster refused since he never refused to give up, He realizes that all of his creations are starting to go aganist him.
But his only defense was cross who was willing to take a chance against them, After X!Papyrus, Undyne and the Expirment "Defeated" Cross, they arrived with the others who were already preparing to kill X!Gaster, How ever X!Gaster found it very intresting that his dream became an reality, but he remembers that someone else was missing, which then moved over to a injured cross.
After Cross managed to kill of everyone including the expermint, X!Gaster refused to die, he decides to spectate the multiverese for a worthy spectate, he asks Alphys to give him an update on the Expirment, she told him Cross is incapble of using X!Chara's Power, which meant there was no going back now, X!Gaster thought this was the perfect time for them to watch the two in silence.
X!Gaster then was very curious about cross's next move, and then the vide ends with a Wingding text which translates to "I AM WATCHING YOU".

X!Gaster is then brought back by ink who drops the vial he gave back to him in timeline 9, which breaks and ends up freeing him, After Error finished up destorying every universe in the doodle sphere except for Underfell and Underswap, he grabs the soul that error took from cross and then takes the other half of his purple soul back, he realized that X!Chara was upset about this and noticed he was crying he gives the other half of the determination back to him.
He then kills off Underswap sans and Underfell Sans for seeing way too much stuff they shouldn't of had, leaving Sans alive and brings him back to his home, he then brings back Cross, and ressurcets the Xtale cast, and reminds him that they'll be waiting for him.

Classic!Chara then controls their vessel and tells the old man to leave them and the protagonist alone, despite this X!Gaster dosen't give up on his goal to presuade them sicne he determined to get what he wants, X!Gaster is then on a nearby moutain cliff that's near the city, watching from above, along with his creations, Ink then bothers him about what was phase three about.

and using them as soldiers to help conquer the corrupted undertale timeline, X!Gaster sends in X!Muffet and X!Mettaton to begin their attack on the timeline, after X!Muffet and X!Mettaton defeated Classic!Mettaton, the rest of the undertale cast decided to head towards the explosion, X!Gaster was curious and intrested in frisk, and realized that they were just making his job easier.

Following X!Gaster's disturbance and destruction in the main univerese, the witnesses and survivors of IX and VIII took the fault on their ambassador frisk along with their friends and family for the destruction and loss of lives, X!Gaster completely invisible to the naked eye of everyone, besides frisk was watching the distress commotion while eating a Glamburger in enjoyment, X!Gaster once again trys to persuades frisk into telling everyone the truth by summoning the overwrite button to them waiting for them to accept his offer, frisk rejects it once again and snaps back to the real world.

Personality[]
Before the events of the "x-event" game taking place, X!Gaster seems to be a kind hearted and a caring old man as seen in timeline 0 he would sacrifice his soul to create anything to co exist for X!Chara and X!Frisk to find joy and entertainment.
Powers and Abilities[]
The OVERWRITE button.
- Overwrite: XGaster's main power. The Overwrite button grants XGaster the ability to change a timeline compeletely in his universe. This can also cause the memory wipe of the inhabitants residing in the universe, and can also cause the universe to revert back into an empty wasteland. XGaster also uses this power to have complete control over his creations including Chara and Frisk, which leaves the original host having zero control over their own body.
- Reset: The reset button is a power that lets XGaster to revert back to an event that already took place in his universe. XGaster got the power of RESET from swapping half of his SOUL with X!Chara's soul half, granting himself DETERMINATION.
- Levitation: XGaster can hover a few feet off the ground. This became his main means of transportation after X!Frisk amputated both of his legs during their rebellion against him in Timeline X.
- Hand Attacks: XGaster's weapon are his floating hands that can create spikes. They can be used as an attack to stab enemies in the soul, as first seen in Underverse 0.4, where he uses them to kill off both UnderSwap!Sans and UnderFell!Sans, and in Timeline X, when he used his hand attack on the OVERWRITTEN crowd controlled by X!Frisk to get himself killed. He also can use the spikes to absorb HP, magic, and soul traits, such as when he absorbed half of X!Chara's soul in Timeline VI.

- X!Gaster originally made the perfect timeline for X!Frisk and X!Chara until he abused the power along side X!Frisk and X!Chara.
- In the mod, X!Gaster speaks with the Wingdings font.
- While this is the case for the original Gaster, X!Gaster's dialogue is always relayed with normal text using the Tahoma font in X-Tale and Underverse. Why it isn't in the mod is unknown. It is likely for the joke in the cutscene.
- Counting his overworld, title, and background appearances, X!Gaster has a total of seven different sprite sheets.
- X!Gaster's last line of dialogue in the intro to Relighted is a reference to an infamous scene from the game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
- X!Gaster is confirmed to be aromantic and asexual.
- The "X" in XGaster's name is not a prefix, but is actually a part of his name. The same could not be said for the other XTale characters.
