“ | The gaze of a god is left by none.. You can't hide and you can't run! Brimstone surrounds us and you won't survive.. TAKE YOUR LAST BREATH BECAUSE YOUR SOUL IS MINE!! | „ |
~ Sonic.exe boasting out at Boyfriend in You Can't Run (Encore), his most famous quote |
Xenophanes, more commonly known as Sonic.EXE, is the titular main antagonist of the now-canceled Friday Night Funkin mod Vs. Sonic.Exe and a minor antagonist in Friday Night Funkin D-Sides.
He is a sadistic demon that resides in a haunted cartridge of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. He would find Boyfriend and Girlfriend after putting Tails' head on a spike, and Boyfriend would challenge him to a rap battle. He is the main opponent of Too Slow, You Can't Run, Triple Trouble, and would’ve been the opponent of the unused song Final Escape and the Encore versions of You Can’t Run and Triple Trouble, and also would’ve been the playable character in Missiletoe.
In "Too Slow" and "You Can't Run", he is voiced by MarStarBro, the composer for the songs, while in "Triple Trouble" and his speaking voice during the game over screens and “You Can’t Run (Encore)” is provided by KGBepis. In "God Feast" he is voiced by DastardlyDeacon, the creator of Friday Night Funkin' D-Sides.
Appearance[]
Sonic.Exe (obviously) looks nearly exactly like his idol Sonic, but with several noticeable differences. His fur and quills are dark blue, less smooth, and more unkempt, his skin now a sickly pale color with a black color fading into his forearms, hands, forelegs, and feet, somewhat symbolizing Sonic.Exe's dark matter. Sonic.Exe also has black or purple claws and sports a wide mouth with yellow fangs (the fangs representing when Sonic.Exe created your body). He also has pitch-black eyes, generally red irises with very tiny pupils.
In "God Feast", Sonic.Exe seems to look the same way as he does in "Too Slow", but he's wearing the two, for some reason untouched tails of Soul Tails as a scarf. Oddly enough, he is designed after his sprites from the 1.0-2.0 versions of his home mod.
The most notable feature would be that Sonic.Exe always seems to produce blood from under his eyes, even when he is not crying. This blood production was because of a major birthmark, as when Sonic.Exe was first born, his eyes hurt greatly. If one looks closely at Sonic.Exe, one can see a faint but noticeable rash under his eyes from crying so much blood.
Unexplainably, this depiction of Sonic.exe has purple tentacles coming out of his mouth in his up pose and hands producing from his mouth in his down and right pose.
Story[]
Background[]
Sometime prior to the main game's story, Xenophanes came into existence and manifested into the form of Sonic the Hedgehog. One by one, he killed two of Sonic's closest friends, Tails and Knuckles, as well as his archenemy, Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
Act 1: Too Slow[]
The game begins with Sonic.EXE putting Tails' head on a pike on Angel Island. Suddenly, a mic is thrown at him by a small rapper named Boyfriend, accompanied by his date called Girlfriend. Boyfriend challenges EXE to a rap battle, who, intrigued, turns the mic into a bloody red color. When the song starts, his voice sounds slow, but when the music continues, his voice goes faster by the minute, with even a jump scare coming in. He eventually makes it clear that he intends to kill the two, and says, "I'M GONNA GETCHA! I AM GOD! HA HA HA HA HA!"
After failing to defeat Boyfriend in the rap battle, an enraged Sonic.EXE breaks his microphone and rushes in to kill Boyfriend. He almost succeeds, but then a big boost of energy cast by Girlfriend sends him back. Boyfriend and Girlfriend would promptly leave the scene. Enraged by this defeat, Sonic.EXE turns to the body parts of Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman and uses his powers on them.
Sometime later, Boyfriend and Girlfriend were seen walking through the forest on the island when Sonic.EXE again appears. He makes another attempt on the former's life, only for Girlfriend to protect him again. In response to this, Boyfriend smugly holds up his mic, wanting to sing again, which further provokes Sonic.EXE. Realizing he can't harm Boyfriend unless he beats him in singing, he accepts his challenge to rap again and flashes an ear to ear grin.
Act 2: You Can't Run[]
Altering his form, Sonic.exe makes further attempts to best Boyfriend by thrusting different kinds of notes on him. He even turns them all into SEGA Genesis graphics and transports them to Green Hill Zone temporarily. As the song continues, Sonic.EXE's patience begins to reach the end of its rope and he visibly gets more infuriated over his inability to beat and kill the two.
Despite Sonic.EXE's best efforts, he is yet again defeated by Boyfriend. Losing what little remains of his sanity, he lets out a roar of hostility, which causes the area to get glitchy.
In Encore Mode, After Boyfriend and Girlfriend manage to escape Grimbo, Boyfriend is seen running through Scrap Brain Zone and passing Xenophanes multiple times. Xenophanes after realizing Boyfriend isn't going to stop, grabs his shirt and throws him back onto the ground. Boyfriend looks up to see Xenophanes standing over him. Xenophanes looks down with a sinister smile.
Act 3: Triple Trouble[]
In a final effort to kill Boyfriend, Sonic.EXE unleashes his true form as Xenophanes and summons the souls of Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman to face Boyfriend with him.
Act 4: Final Escape[]
And his last effort, Xenophanes appears in a Sonic 1 title screen and starts chasing Boyfriend across a wavy landscape. In some intermission, he manages to grab Boyfriend, only for him to turn super just before Xenophanes can kill him. In the final showdown, Super Boyfriend exits the game, ultimately failing to kill Boyfriend once again.
God Feast[]
Lord X, Xenophanes, Majin Sonic, Tails Doll, Fleetway Super Sonic and Sunky were invited by their D-Side counterparts to a Thanksgiving feast. Before eating, they start a rap battle.
Drugs[]
Mickey, Sonic.EXE and Red Mist Squidward challenge Sky Blue/Sky to a rap battle, which if she loses, they kill her.

This is the version of the song found on YouTube, featuring Xeno's chromatic when he's disguised as regular Sonic. Went unused in the Canceled 2.5/3.0 Build.
Unknown as to why, though it's possibly because the fake form sprites were not done at the time. Used to be for Xenophanes, but was changed to Grimbo. |

The game would've crashed after Triple Trouble, opening with this upon restart. Formerly called "...", "Final Chase" and "Too Far", though not to be confused with the scrapped song of the same name. As will be seen in its own mod. |

Trivia[]
- The jumpscare in "Too Slow" is a nod to the video game Sonic.exe. Specifically, it's a nod to the short Sonic.EXE-related animation "An Ordinary Battle Amongst Familiar Hills".
- The icon for the game file is the same as the original Sonic.exe application icon, that being a red ring.
- Xenophanes' appearance in the D-Side mod's God Feast is based on his appearance used in Slaybells. Because his "Slaybells" sprites were done during 2.0's development, his design in the mod was drawn after his old design, specifically from versions 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0.
- Dying to Sonic.Exe in any of his songs results in him appearing over Boyfriend, with his hands hovering at Boyfriend's sides. Best advised to select "Retry" not because of its overall creepiness but because if you fail to do so, Sonic.Exe will crush you with his hands and send you back to the main menu. This game over screen was shared with Lord X in versions 1.0 and 1.5.
- According to Cherribun, one of the artists of the mod, the character fought against in the Encore version of Too Slow isn't Xenophanes himself, but rather a different character called simply as Grimbo.[2] The reason behind this was because Xenophanes had to use the bathroom, so Grimbo stepped in to fill in his role.[3]
- Unlike what's usually believed, this Xenophanes, the canon Xenophanes, the canon Sonic.exe and the original Sonic.exe aren’t the same character.
- A hidden eye can be seen in Xenophanes' mouth if one were brighten his down pose. With older versions of his sprites, the eye used to be in his empty sockets.
- The character is a representation of the character's evolution from the original classic iterations of X to modern Xenophanes, with Too Slow being direct representation of the original X, and MY5TCrimson's Sonic.exe mostly refering to the last as his design is quite different from JC's X. You Can't Run being a representation from the gradual change from the original Sonic.exe to Xenophanes and lastly Triple Trouble representing current day Xenophanes.
- In his internal files, he is named as "Luis", although this was a joke.
- Despite popular belief, the Triple Trouble sprites weren't going to get a remaster.
- Xenophanes' song names (excluding Final Escape) are references to official Sonic media:
- Too Slow is a reference to Sonic’s line in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, “You’re too slow!”
- You Can’t Run is possibly a reference to Knuckles’ stage of the same name from Sonic.EXE fangames such as Spirits of Hell and Nightmare Beginning.
- Triple Trouble is a reference to the game Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble.
